Agreed just enjoy the success and quit hating on everyone that didn't go through the "hard times" like you did. This isn't high school. I'm cooler that you because (insert silly argument here)....

i'm just glad the younger fans havent had to endure tough times (or at least not to the extent I did) Whether your a "bandwagoner" or not, I dont really care. May the difficult times never return, and the bandwagon never lose as much as a spoke

Or the 'better' fans. However it is put I see it on this site all the time. The older of our fanbase seems to have this belief that because the younger group did not sit in the stands in the 90's and that all the younger group knows is success makes them lesser fans. 'Spoiled' is the word that comes up most often, as if it is the fault of the younger generation that LSU is better now than they used to be.

There are people on here that comment about LSU from the 60's and 70's. What kind of fans are those? How do they fit in the context of what you wrote? they experienced some great times and some pretty low ones as you pointed out.

I simply say this with regards to commenting on LSU sports, if I have something to say (my opinion), I say it based on MY experience in attending games in all sports including track and tennis events from the past 40 years (That is as much as I can remember ).

Just because you are a student or a grandpaw, like me, you can still be a fan in the truest sense about any and all things LSU.

However, as my dad reminds me, he has seen alot more games including the 58 and 59 season so he speaks from HIS perspective, which I respect. Does it mean that I have to agree? No. I am smart enough to know that he has personally seen alot more than I have and has a larger base to compare and contrast LSU's performance in any given contest.

So, respect ALL LSU FANS!

Caution: Don't be quick to dismiss those fans that make statements about past teams that came before the 21st century based on what you have seen if you didn't see them personnally.
Have a great NEW YEAR TO ALL LSU FANS!

This is the dumbest thing you've said. Which is saying a lot.

It's amazing the number of posters who have agreed with me, don't you think?

I'm the voice of a new movement. In the people who agree with me, I see the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering.

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shite we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place.

We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

I have been thinking about this thread since I posted earlier. The difference is not age or all the little nit picky stuff about bieng around when LSU sucked. It's that we understand that winning is very hard to do week in and week out. These are kids we're talking about. So if LSU plays hard and we do lose we are beat down, but understand.

I'll begin this by admitting i'm older than dirt. (beats the alternative) You said that you cant help it if you were not around for the down years, by the same measure, I cant help it I was. My defenition of a true fan, (which I consider myself one), is a love for your team regardless of their success or lack thereof. I am an Astros fan, a Saints fan, and a LSU fan. With that said, its obvious that i've sufferred through my share of sub par teams (helluva of an understatement) I've made the comment for years now, "All I want to see in my life, is a superbowl win by the saints, a national title for the Tigers, and a world series win for the astros. Once this is accoomplished, I'll be ready to be layed low. I still love me some Astros, but I think its safe to say i still have quite a few sunrises to see. Enjoy guys, these are truly the golden years

At the risk of Plagerizing your comment (which I plan to do), I'm 65 and still know more about LSU sports than any of my three kids who I put though there, and add to that my know it all class of '85 son in law as well.

I was born in Boston and moved to BR after 4 years in the service, and finished LSU in '74. My wife was from Gonzales. I'm using your comments because I'm too lazy to write the same thing, only to fill in Boston Red Sox for the Astros.

I think there is a generational disrespect in both directions, and I don't think this is anything new. "We've been there and done that", and they "have to make their own discoveries."

One quick example: A couple weeks ago I was going accross the Pensacola Beach Bridge in the pouring rain and picked a young guy who was getting pummeled by the rain. I'm jamming to some old metal, and he says "whats an old guy like you doing listening to that?" and my reply: "well young dude, that group is the Scorpions, and that lead singer was born in 1948... that was my generations music, but you're welcome to enjoy it"

All my teams have won, I hope it's not my time to lay down

My first post season game was 2001 SECCG. I can't remember anything prior, not even my first game. I was only 13 in '01 so my support came from a very young age. Yes, the shittier years. I think the worst fans are the people who hopped on in '03. Though I can't fault the younger guys, the fanbase grew tremendously by then.

Now to contradict myself, I find that be biggest bandwagon fans are the people who constantly try to prove their fandom. Like the people who load up on gear at one time (bc they have none).
