I would also say that this is a reflection of piss poor parenting.
This permissive shite we raise kids with today is showing it's ugly side, and honestly, when I see someone who won't take their hat off for the national anthem, it shows me a very selfish person who's parents either didn't make an effort to teach them manners, or they are so hard headed that they just decided to push the fail button instead.

But if someone wants to start a thread attacking those that don't, I'll be the FIRST ONE defending the people that don't take their hats off. Because it is laughable how some in this thread make it a "good person vs bad person" debate ... over a fricking baseball cap during a song. Some make issues way too black and white.
That's what makes America great. Individuals have the right of dissent, and aren't forced to remove their caps.
But, as Americans, we have the right to express our opinions about these people. Laws aren't required to mandate everything. Sometimes, being chastised by your peers is more powerful. I hope that people feel free to chastise those who refuse to remove their caps. It's an American right.

men don't do this out of respect, they do it thinking it might get them laid...

One more thought that popped into my head regarding the "good person vs bad person" component of this argument.
Just because someone served in the military doesn't mean they automatically and by default deserve our respect. I personally know two people in the military that are the absolute scum of the earth. You beat your wife and child, and you will never earn my respect. Ever. Certainly the actions of a few doesn't affect my opinion of the whole, but my point is that every member of the military does not automatically deserve our respect because they are in the military.

If someone behind you in line at the grocery store started humming the national anthem, would you take off your hat until they finished?

That's funny. Yeah would ya? I mean even if it's being hummed, it is the national anthem.

I must have missed the part about the Final Solution.
Do you think it serves any purpose whatsoever to compare people you disagree with to a murderous animal like Hitler but to further cause your argument to look more and more silly?

Exchanging words with someone about removing their hat, or standing or putting their hand over their heart (especially an Ole Black miss rebel bear)is useless because they are as ignorant as they are obnoxious

yes, but if they start humming "I'm proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood then I'd probably take them out...

If you don't respect the National Anthem, at the very least take your damn hat off and be quiet in respect those whose blood bought your freedom to go to a game and act like an idiot.

bullshite. Every single one of those men and women died just as much for my right to keep my hat on. By dissenting and keeping it on, I am celebrating their sacrifice just as much as taking my hat off.

I think it is disrespectful, and I also think yelling Tigers at the end is disrespectful.
But people have the right to be disrespectful, just like they have the right to be stupid, etc.
