re: The Rant's opinion on not removing hats for the National Anthem

I get that, and like I said, if I was wearing a cap, I certainly would remove it (whether I would admit it or not, it is certainly out of respect).
I just find it laughable when people claim that people that don't remove their cap have zero respect for the men and women that fought for our country. Because that's not true. In some cases, maybe, but certainly not all.
At the end of the day, it is a baseball cap. A baseball cap.

right, but youre not explaining why it's disrespectful
Unfortunately I don't think I can, that's just the way it is. I don't know why it's respectful to say sir and maam, or to hold open door for females...it just is.

It's not nearly as complicated as people are making it out to be.
Removing one's hat during the national anthem is a sign of respect and appreciation to those who have given their life for this country. It is not mandated by law, so no one is required to do it. But, it is has become a patriotic custom in America.
If you choose not to remove the cap, you are signaling that you don't appreciate the sacrifice of veterans. You may or may not actually feel this way, but the signal you are sending to the rest of the people in the audience is that you don't care enough to show this sign of respect.
It's really a simple concept.

Well there is the problem, you think it is a song, those of us who have served think it is a prayer, a memory of those "Brave" who did not come home.
I completely disagree with this. The brave men and women who gave their lives did so to protect freedom, including the freedom to dissent (i.e. keep my hat on), which is unique in this country and what makes it great. The fact that we can dissent without fear from government reprisal is an honor to them. Trying to force everyone to be patriotic by taking off their hat is MUCH more of an affront to the memory of those brave people.

If you have to ask why its disrespectful, or why you should take off your hat during the anthem, you clearly didnt get the proper upbringing you should have. No need to explain or debate this further.

It is a rare opportunity for us all to connect in one belief, regardless of where we stand on others.

It just shows their up bringing. Their parents should be punched in the mouth for raising that disrespectful trash.

specifically how is it disrespectful? Wouldn't displaying a matted down, oily comb-over during a song that honors our fallen soldiers be more disrespectful?
I said it was out of respect. It's been done since before any of us were born. It's a know sign for respect for our guys and disregarding it is disrespectful. It shouldn't be punishable because the fact that we are a free country.
We also stand, but you probably wouldn't find someone sitting through it disrespectful.

And neither are loud farts in public, but people generally have better sense than to just let one rip, and especially without saying excuse me afterwards.
There are just some things that you don't need a law for. People should just know better, but alas, it would seem that today people don't, and that's a societal problem.

I like this post, and agree. Like I said, I take my hat off out of respect ... But if someone wants to start a thread attacking those that don't, I'll be the FIRST ONE defending the people that don't take their hats off. Because it is laughable how some in this thread make it a "good person vs bad person" debate ... over a fricking baseball cap during a song. Some make issues way too black and white.

I hold the door open for plenty of women that I wouldn't even think twice about doing. Fwiw... You don't hold the door open for the elderly?

Also, anyone who has ever popped one of those stupid firecrackers at an LSU game during the "rockets red glare" has no business criticizing the wearing of hats during the anthem.
