The actual 3 big problems I see.

1. Anthony Ranaudo is still not 100%
2. Trey Watkins out with no decent replacement
3. Joey Bourgeois needs to stop starting SEC games

I bet most of these kids played a ton of tourney ball in their youth, so they are probably used to playing a ton of games every summer. I don't buy the "tired" excuse.

We are losing close games, we need to develop that killer instinct.

Slumps, if you will, are a necessary part of any successful baseball season. It returns humility and attention to detail. The fact that you can be in a slump means you were doing something right before it went wrong.

I posted a few weeks ago that I hadn't seen the fire in this team like the NC teams and we still haven't.

But know this, they know how bad they are playing. Dean commented last night that if they don't play better, "we'll get it handed to us again".. they know.

The boys will be fine. We'll see some very good ball before the end of the season and if anything, I'd rather have a slump now than when tourney play starts.

If we don't find a way to win 2 of 3 this weekend, I think we can kiss a Super goodbye. Again, it is the pitching IMO. Need AR back in form, Ott to starting role (or Bradford role) and a couple of other pitchers to miraculously find it.

Being tired in football is one thing, but for baseball, it is just a poor excuse, especially for a 20 year old.

I remember playing softball tournaments that we would play 3-4 games a day for two days straight and it wasn't that bad, so how does 9 games in 12 days wear you out?

We just do not have the x factors we had last season

As the topic states we are just an average team

so being ranked in the top 20 in the country is average to you? Is Florida average? Virginia? Florida State? Georgia Tech? Arkansas?

This team is definately in a slump which all baseball teams will go through throughout the course of a long season. Pitching however is a weak spot on this team not just slumping. I think Ranaudo will eventually get it figured out and return to form. I think Ott assuming a starting role is a necessity (though i dont think it will happen) You need two dominant starters and by dominant i mean a guy who can consistantly give you at least 6+ 3ER's or less on a consistant basis. This would also take a ton of pressure off the hitting. Knowing that they dont need to produce a ton of runs to win every game. Matulis i think would be a quality 3rd starter just not the dominant starter Ranaudo or Ott could be. If these changes are made with the rotation I dont see any reason they cant make another deep run into the post season possibly toward another championship.

Mental fatigue is a big part of it. It is very hard to compete against the best of the best every weekend, fighting for you SEC title, top 8 national seed, etc. Add in all of the travel from the last 12 days with the extra inning/one run games, mix in a few injuries, and you can see that this team is fatigued.

I buy the baseball fatigue alot more than football. Football only plays once a week, 12 games a year spaced out over 13 weeks.

My point is I'm not giving up on this team, they still have some good ball left in 'em.

Last night wasn't due to fatigue.

We are in a slump. It is mental.
