re: The not too distant future and why LSU will never be Elite...

The record is terrific, no argument here; however, the manner in which it was achieved makes me wonder how much better we could be. Certainly, nobody could argue that Les has gotten the most he could out of the last 3 seasons.
A mistake or two here or there is understandable, but I know of no "highly regarded" coaches that have made as many "silly mistakes" as Miles. And here's a newsflash for you ... outside of Baton Rouge, Miles isn't "highly regarded." Just a couple of months ago he was a punch line for the majority of the sports media, and really what's changed since then except for a nice win against Alabama and a lucky bounce against Florida?
The truth of the matter is that us ranters don't really know who is available. The list of "available" coaches is usually comprised of those who aren't currently employed and those who have their names floated through their agent for leverage. Saban and Miles weren't "available" when we got them. Heck, if memory serves correctly, Miles had just signed an extension before he came to Baton Rouge. Certainly, the recent Florida and Miami hires could cause some concern, and I understand it's not 100% certain that we can replace Miles with someone better; but, all that said, I choose to believe that there are plenty of guys out there who could step in and get the job done, and that aren't necessarily on some published list somewhere for ranters like us to peruse.

The reason why i post in these threads is to ask guys like your self to name who they would want to replace him. And usually they cant come up with anything other than saban, gruden, spurrier, and patterson.

southernman LSU has the typical fanbase no different than anyone else's.
They dont appreciate what they have till its gone.
What have you done for me lately Les. We expect NC every single year.
And Les we expect to be # 1 on a contrived star or rating system run by Alabama faithfull.
This is a football forum and i would venture to bet 80% of these people would line up to smooth on old Les if they saw him in person are the same ones telling him dont let the door hit ya on the way out.
Welcome to the internet.
I dont know if Les is going to Michigan and i can bet you that if he is you will not hear anything but speculation considerering what happenned the last time.
But after our game it is a possibility.
We will have to deal with it if he goes and it wont be the end of the world but i would sure hate to lose him.
And there is only one place that Les could go in the future that would cause me to think less of him and that is Bama.
Cause the other coach knew what he was doing but didnt care.
Les i hope you stay for 15-20 more years but if he goes i will be thankfull for having him as our coach and will always be greatfull.

Saban didn't leave LSU to go to Bama.
quote:So you would be ok with Les Miles leaving LSU to take a lateral position at another university, but hate Saban for leaving LSU to take a professional job? That doesn't make sense.

outside of Baton Rouge
I could say outside of baton rouge he isnt made out to be as bad as he is here either. Espn staff was giving him all the praise in the world after they beat bama. A win you call a nice win. But for some reason the other 50+ havent been?
Outside of Baton Rouge, LSU isnt highly regarded either. Which brings me to ask why would we be able to get an elite coach here? At the time of the hires none of ours were. They made their names while at LSU. And that is exactly what is going to happen with our next coach. It will be a guy that we will prob have to wait 3-4 years before we can decide if he was the rt hire.

IMO Miles has done exceptionally well. Sean peyton has made is share of bone headed decisions and people wanted him gone. He won a superbowl and now he is highly regarded. I honestly believe people dislike miles cus he is not saban. Plain and simple. I dont have faith in our AD. They are going to go out and get a no name coach and we will be rt back here in 4 or 5 years except we might not have a bcs bowl win in that time.
Unless they shell out the big bucks. One of the biggest complaints I hear. Its not that they dont like him its that for what we are paying we should see better.
Im not in that group of people who think anyone can win and recruit here. In todays college football the only thing that separates the top teams for me is the coaches.

Worst thread title ever. "Why LSU will never be Elite." What is your definition of Elite? Because I can look at about 95% of BCS schools that would change positions with LSU in a heartbeat.
Just utter nonsense from another stupid poster.
