The "myth" that our lines are bad and we need to recruit better. Let's take a look.

I see quite a few people saying that our recruiting is "lacking" on the lines. Is it, though? We undoubtedly got beat on the lines. And everywhere else. But let's take a look at the players that we brought in.
Let's start with the defensive line:
Elite. Guys that could have gone ANYWHERE. If these are the "wrong" recruits, then you're basically saying that we should have let these guys go to Auburn, Ohio State, Texas, and elsewhere.
Let's continue on with the linebackers:
Once again, 4 star guys across the board. Combine this with the DL posted above, and you have nothing but highly ranked 4* and 5* star guys. How much better can it get?
I would argue that defense wasn't the issue. So let's take a look at the offense, specifically the OL.
A collection of some of the guys that have started this year for us:
That's a pretty stout list. Lewis and Cushenberry were the only guys that you could argue were NOT highly recruited - everyone else could have gone to Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Ohio State, etc. And Cushenberry, despite being one of the lowest rated recruits on the OL, has actually been one of the better players on the line, relatively speaking.
So, those are your lines. Now tell me...where are the massive deficiencies? Where are the gaping holes in talent? Are we really going to set the expectation that we absolutely need nothing but 5* OL to have a functioning and proficient offense?
Let me offer an alternative explanation - coaching. Development. Or rather, the lack thereof. I don't know how any rational person can take a look at the talent posted above and say, "Nope, definitely not good enough. It needs to be a lot better".
Let's look at one more thing. We've fielded an anemic offense for years, and always talk about needing to bring in more talent on offense.
Last year, we brought in these two studs that, again, could have gone anywhere they wanted to:
Have you seen these guys lately? They've completely vanished. Elite, skilled, 5* WRs that could be at Alabama or Texas or Ohio State, but they both came here. Where are they? I think Marshall caught a pass or two against Georgia, and Chase I believe caught one against Mississippi State. But they've been a complete non-factor for much of the year. Why?
Coaching and development. That's all it is.

Lots of 4 stars....Bama has lots of 5 stars. There is a difference and you're seeing it.

Look dude we got manhandled up front last night.. call it what u want.. bama was bigger faster stronger.. no time to even look for 5 star receivers.. and star ratings don’t play football.. the TE Irv smith was a 3 star from New Orleans.. I’ll take this even further deculus has struggled to pass block as a tackle.. brumfield never lived up to his ranking.. Ingram isn’t on the team anymore.. etc etc etc

Well those 4 stars got their shite pushed in all night last night.

Where are the profiles of the Bama linemen they were competing against?
Posted on 11/4/18 at 9:40 am to Cs
Orgeron and Ensminger should be a lemon to coach the, up right......

Every lineman in that screenshot is a OG. Not one LT or RT. That’s a problem. Also, 3 DL can’t rotate with themselves. How many sacks do they have collectively this year?

The O homers will always make excuses for him. We have no coaching development. We fired Miles for the same shite. This starts at the top and Alleva needs to be let go

I love Rashard Lawrence, but we need to be honest with ourselves and realize he has been a big disappointment. He hasn't lived up to his recruiting rankings at all.

Bama can double, even triple that list with true FIVE stars. You listed four stars.
The culmination of 9 straight years of number one classes that come into a program and STAY, while practicing up against other elite depth makes all the difference.
With the scheduling, talent gap, and officiating advantage, Bama should never, ever lose a game. Ever.

Then why the frick are you getting manhandled against Florida, Troy, and Mississippi State?

Oh for fricks sake
There are only so many 5 stars these were some of the best at their position.
The above players are better than any group of players on Bama's schedule.
So why is LSU the only team that cannot score a single fricking point? AT HOME?

I agree. The only “game changers” we have on D are White, Greedy and Delpit in my opinion. Our defensive line isn’t dominant like the years we had Montgomery, Brockers, Logan, Mingo, and etc...

If you took the last 15 years of recruiting LSU and Bama are the only two teams consistent at the top.
Except for last year. Who's fault is that?

It ain't the recruiting. It's the coaching.

So you blame the defense? Lmfao
Posted on 11/4/18 at 9:45 am to Cs
Look at all those stars. Form an opinion.
Then look at their play on the field. Immediately arrive at the opposite conclusion.
They are indeed a bad line with lots of stars.

No not at all lol. I was really just replying to CP3. The defense played well enough to keep us in the game but there’s only so much they can do when your offense can’t sustain drives and put TD’s on the board. Because you’re not beating Bama with FG’s. And we couldn’t even get those.

Maybe Lawrence is better suited at DT in a 4-3, but I don't think it's even arguable that he hasn't lived up to expectations.

Excellent post. The scariest thing on this board right now is the amount of excuses being made.
As far as I can tell, the prevailing argument is that until the top tier players choose LSU, we are screwed. So there’s really nothing to be done about it, right? The problem has to sort itself out, but definitely the coaches are not to blame.
On the other hand, whose responsibility is it to manage recruiting and ensure LSU is getting its share of elite talent?
I wish more people would just put a little thought into their arguments like you have.
