The most disappointing aspect of the schedule isn't just the East opponents....

ETA: Ok I'm gonna be a poon here, so DWI or GTFO.
This isn't just another thread complaining about how Bama and A&M dodge the Big 3 from the East while LSU gets 2. The SEC was going to do what the SEC was going to do as far as the bridge schedule.
But I really think our AD or whoever had input on the schedule really dropped the ball and didn't represent the interests of the program in the order that the games are played.
The 5 game SEC stretch in the middle of the season is simply unmanageable IMO. Everyone is focused on the Bama and A&M games, but the reality is that LSU could beat both of those teams and still not win the West.
The difficulty of playing in the SEC isn't just about the opponents. It's the grind of playing against SEC talent week in and week out without reprieve. And that is where the real advantage of Bama and A&M's schedule comes in.
LSU's longest SEC stretch without a bye:
Sep. 21 Auburn
Sep. 28 at Georgia
Oct. 5 at Mississippi St.
Oct. 12 Florida
Oct. 19 at Ole Miss
A&M's longest SEC stretch without a bye:
Oct 12 at Ole Miss
Oct 19 Auburn
Oct 26 Vanderbilt
Bama's longest SEC stretch without a bye:
Oct. 12 at Kentucky
Oct. 19 Arkansas
Oct. 26 Tennessee
I mean, there just isn't a stretch where either of those two teams have a realistic chance to get worn down. Both teams follow up road trips with two home games against non-bowl teams or Vandy.
LSU has 3 road trips against bowl teams mixed in with home games against Auburn and Florida.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing A&M or Bama. On the contrary, their ADs deserve a ton of credit for doing such a great job putting their teams in such enviable position. It's LSU's AD that failed this team and our fans IMO.
Once the opponents were selected, however that happened, LSU should have kicked up a lot of dust to at least have the schedule be more equitably spread out for our team given that we clearly had the most challenging opponents.
Just a simple suggestion that could have made our schedule much more reasonable would have been to move the Ole Miss game back a week.
Ole Miss is another team that kind of got screwed, and I think they would have jumped at that suggestion as well.
OM's longest SEC stretch without a bye:
Sep. 28 at Alabama
Oct. 5 at Auburn
Oct. 12 Texas A&M
Oct. 19 LSU
Now that's a brutal stretch as well. Here's where I think the ADs of both schools could have gone to the SEC for a simple compromise.
OM:
Oct. 19 LSU
Oct. 26 Idaho
Nov. 2 BYE
LSU:
Oct. 19 at Ole Miss
Oct. 26 Furman
Nov. 2 BYE
Move the LSU OM game to Oct. 26, and reschedule the non-conf game to 10/19.
Idaho had a bye 10/19 anyway, and Furman either accommodates the move by shuffling their lineup or GTFO and we find some other scrub to pay for a scrimmage.
That would give BOTH teams a huge break from what is a minefield of a schedule.
No clue how they or the SEC didn't recognize this huge disparity and correct it. Unfortunately the players and fans of those teams will be the ones to suffer.

I think I saw you make this point the other day, and it was the first time I had considered it. It really does solidify just what a fricking brutal schedule this year is when you point this out as well. Not only does LSU get bent over a barrel and shown the 50 states by virtue of having to play 2 of the top 3 from the east, but they get 5 straight SEC foes in a row without a bye as their nearest competitors each have three with Vandy and Kentucky being among those juggernauts.
If LSU makes it through this schedule in one piece, I defy anyone to ever say anything bad about this coaching staff again.

Grissom Hi in Huntsville could win with the Gumps schedule, but we shall over come!!!

Thoughtful post. You actually went through the schedules and proposed a reasonable solution. I never understood why we fans are expected to not bitch about obvious unfairness on the Rant.

Arkansas got a pretty raw deal with their schedule as well, but I don't hear them complain, or maybe I just don't listen to them because they are Hog fans.
Sept 28--A&M
Oct 5---Florida
Oct 12---South Carolina
Oct 19---Bama
Four tough games with no bye week.

Well I'll go against the grain and say that the OP has a point. especially with playing two on the road in a row (including being on the road for 3 of 4 weeks).
you have to understand by now the huge role momentum plays in cfb and how it dictates outcomes from week to week.
for instance:
If we hapopen to get by what is sure to be a big game with UGA on the road, then State becomes the ultimate trap game (feeding off both complacency of a possible "letdown" from the big win vs UGA combined with the "look ahead" to UF")
the same can be said of that latter part. Ole miss always plays LSU close (for the most part) and if we beat the Gators, we may be primed for a letdown on the road vs the Rebel bears.
so even if we win the supposed "big" games LSU could fall prey to lesser teams (as any team would in our situation) it's hard to look at that stretch and not think at least 1 loss is possible and probably 2. and this isn't counting the possible losses with tamu, bama, and TCU.

Of course they don't complain, they wouldn't have won shite if their schedule was easier anyway. You're looking at a title contender in LSU, and gum under my shoe in Arkansas.

Yep...not a fun stretch. Of course, they only have a four week stretch and all four are at home whereas three of LSU's 5 straight SEC games on on the road.

If Zack gets his shite together, we will be fine.
I trust in the coach who has won the most games in the BCS while playing one of the hardest schedules since 2005.

LSU is gonna have great exposure for 5 straight weeks. All are games that LSU should win. This is why players come to LSU, to get ready for the NFL. If we take care of business, we will be ok. I'm sure the players and coaches are saying bring it.

going back into my post about momentum, you might also want to consider who our opponent is playing the week before they play us. UGA and state stick out as basically having 2 weeks to prepare for LSU. arky at the swamp will be better than our situation of traveling to state the week before UF. no complaints about ole miss having to take on tamu.
Sep. 21 Auburn (plays State at home)
Sep. 28 at Georgia (north texas at home)
Oct. 5 at Mississippi St. (open date)
Oct. 12 Florida (arky at home)
Oct. 19 at Ole Miss (tamu at home)
in fact i'll also go as far to point out who our opponents face the week after they play us to see if theres a chance that they will look ahead. AU not so much, or state and ole miss too. both UGA and UF have sec games on road but not against top half opponents.
Sep. 21 Auburn (open date)
Sep. 28 at Georgia (at tennessee)
Oct. 5 at Mississippi St. (bowling green)
Oct. 12 Florida (at MIzzou)
Oct. 19 at Ole Miss (Idaho)

This thread is a perfect example of the pussification of one particular LSU fan.
I can understand the unfairness of the permanent opponent rule, but too many consecutive SEC games.
LSU is in the SEC you moron--get use to it.
