I've been attending games for 40 years. I can assure you, fans and students left early 40 years ago and became disheartened after the opponent made a play to kill momentum.

The crowd showed up. It was loud. It WANTED to be loud. Perhaps giving up a 57 yard pass and a TD a few plays later after you just took the lead might not be a good way to keep the fans involved.

quote:

Back in the day fans threw their babies down to cheer for the Tigers.

Except in the 90's when those baby throwing fans didn't even show up.

LSU fans are no different than any other fans. Give them something to cheer about and they will, loudly. Lose to every team with a pulse for nearly 3 years, including the program that has dominated you for the last 20 years, and they kind of stop being excited.

I agree with you. They had been attacking all day. Go back and watch the 50-yard pass play that eventually led to them retaking the lead in just 2 minutes. Only four defensive lineman and Umanmielan(sp) was the only one that tried to beat his man and get to the quarterback. The other three stood straight up to contain. We rushed ONE, he sat back there for eternity and hits a streaking receiver for a 50-yard gain.

In baker's defense we ran that defense all night against Ole Miss and kentucky. Against Bama he only called it a few times and they absolutely made us pay.

As far as the chant goes, I can't believe that we're discussing this for a second generation now. I literally can't believe that it hasn't just died by now.

It's one of those things that LSU has tried so hard to stop that I think that's literally the reason it's being done. It's twofold. It is absolutely disgusting and vulgar and affects the reputation of our entire fan base. And it literally has killed the performance of the band as the administration is going to such Extreme Measures to drown it out. Even the students would rather hear the band play, but they're so dead set on sticking it to the administration that they're not wrapping their head around the fact that they're running the entire game day experience/ interaction with the band that was developed for literally generations before they came along and started this mess
