In the second half, we had a second down (I think) play where a flag was thrown as we snapped. The play was then allowed to continue. We ended up with an incompletion (I think) and the call on the field was Illegal Shift and was declined by bama.

I thought illegal shift is a pre-snap penalty. Why was that play allowed to continue?

Because illegal shift is not a pre-snap penalty thart results in immediate stoppage.

Bro. How much football do you watch? An illegal shift has never resulted in a stoppage of play.

It wasnt called an illegal shift. It was called a false start which is a pre snap penalty IIRC.

The illegal shift was committed by a player who was behind/off the line of scrimmage, therefore it does not constitute a stoppage of play. Only fouls that happen on the line of scrimmage stop the play.

So there was no call for the RT and RG jumping offsides before when the DL hard shifted?
