The bowls are consolation games.

The playoffs have rendered them irrelevant.
why don't we have a round robin tournament outside of the super bowl with all the teams who didn't make the playoffs?
wichita should host a tourney for all the teams that didn't make it to omaha.
do y'all watch the NIT?
fricking get over it. LSU didn't make the CFP. there are little to no stakes in this game anymore. getting invited at all is the only thing.
for all the whining about participation trophies on this board, everyone sure seems to care that LSU gets theirs.

Have we ever made a major bowl with a 9-3 record before? I don’t ever recall teams making these types of bowls with more than 2 losses before the CFP. I could be wrong .

bowls were great when they were all we had with no conference title game and no BCS or playoffs sytem. All we had was AP and UPI polls.

The current set up is not any different than at other times in history. In fact, they used to be true exhibition games as the national champ was given before the bowls. In more modern times you had about 2 games that could influence the national championship argument. In the BCS era only one game could produce a national title (except for USC's fraudulent title).
Yet, only two years ago did players start skipping bowl games.

We won the 2001 (Jan 1, 2002) Sugar Bowl with 3 losses.

Pretty much this.
People have been hoodwinked by the marketing of the "NY6".
Five years ago LSU would have been playing in the Capital One bowl, at best, given our regular season results.

Too much tv money in bowls for them to go away but just like the FCS with a 16 team playoff.
It's time to go to that. Than the top players on those 16 teams will play for their teams instead of worrying about draft.
Do away with conference title games.

When did the winner of the Citrus or Outback bowl have a shot at NCG.
Saying the bowls are now irrelevant doesn't move the goal posts hoss.
