re: The Big 3 issues with this football team

Good chat guys. Most need to calm down. I am like most of you but Punt and Kickoff coverage are the main concern this year. Our defense is solid and offense could be one of the best which i am hoping we will see more and more of Harris throwing. You look at every top team in the country and everyone of them has a flaw besides Bama. LOL. We got their number this year. Its just our turn. I like what we have and a little luck our way we could take it this year. It all needs to fall into place

as I see them...
#1-obviously kick off and punt coverage. somehow this has morphed into "rocket science"
Actually it was much better last night. The UF punt return was compliments of SEC officials that did not call a block in the back right in front of them.
#2- pass coverage. yea, we are supposed to have great db's but they look lost in zone coverage way too often for this stage of the season.
Not as bad as you think. Hell the best pass of the night for UF was a complete redass job. Also they used well disguised routes to free the TE. Give them some credit for that.
#3- coaching with the lead. i'm a big Miles guy but I could have choked him last night. we come out of the locker room with a TWO TOUCHDOWN LEAD and go 3 straight 3 and outs. If we would have scored a TD on our first possession it would have been 35 to 14 about midway thru the third. florida didn't seem to make any great adjustments, we just quit running the crossing routes and quit passing the ball completely.
Again, we did not quit passing. We had a couple of drops that could have given us first downs. Also, UFs defense did not come by it's ranking for nothing. They played VERY fired up football after halftime. It was going to happen sooner or later in the game.
imo, these are 3 flaws that will prevent us from winning the SEC unless fixed. I doubt #3 will ever get fixed. miles is who he is; "gimme a lead and i'm gonna run the clock out no matter how much time is on that clock".
IMO. You and anyone else believing this kind of bullshite are completely stupid. Amazing you go from small worried to total dumbassery in the end.

Typical clown like post from those with their head stuck up their arse.
The season starts with the first SEC game. I guess last year you thought the season started in November too.
LSU beats a top 10 team from the SEC, but negative idiots like you don't think the season has started yet.

Sounds like the perfect time to trust Buga IMO.

Yep, we definitely should've tried to score, because I'm sure we weren't trying.
A 2-TD second-half lead at home when you have the best RB in the country is not the time to be aggressive with the playcalling. It's the time to rely on your workhorse. Just because we failed to convert any first downs on those drives and failed to break any big plays, doesn't mean they weren't the right calls. I would argue that they were.

Not funny, and not original either. Again, 14-point second-half lead at home with the best RB in the country in the backfield - Are you really arguing that giving him the ball in that situation wasn't the best strategy? You'd rather open up the playbook at that point? Please.
Hindsight's 20/20 for you guys. If Buga had broken another 70 yard run to ice the game (which, as we've seen, he's VERY capable of doing), then you wouldn't be making this thread.

Thinking the game is over when we have a multiple TD lead.
This is not the same as what actually happened.

It's like our team says, "well shite, our work is done here". They've done it almost every game, and it's absolutely aggravating. This WILL lose us a game if they keep it up.
And how many games would an early second-half turnover have lost us by now?. . .
Look at Miles's record, particularly his record in close games. I'm pretty sure he has a decent grasp on the whole winning thing (and closing out games). It's not always pretty, and - God knows - it's not always to the fans' liking, but he gets the job done. Time and time again.

Just don't know why miles insists on mailing it in early when things were finally clicking so well with the offense.
Right, because trusting our O-line (one of the best in the country) and our RBs (THE best in the country) = mailing it in.

Reason Florida was able to stop it so easily was because it was obvious what was going to happen.
Well, either that, or because they're one of the best defenses in the country, in their biggest game of the season to this point.
I mean, what'd you expect? You want us to score more than 35 on that defense?! All of these self-proclaimed offensive geniuses on this board would kill for Ole Miss's offense, I'm sure. They scored 10 points against Florida.

For good reason, not sure if it is youth, but, at times, the defense has struggled when they spend lots of time on the field.
I agree. But that's true of any defense. That's why our O-line and running game are such a valuable asset, especially in the second half.

Our second series of the second half was not the time to let Guice show that he is part of a two-headed monster rushing attack. He is not and Florida is not South Carolina. We came out soft and tried to protect a lead rather than go for the jugular. I know...we won...and I am happy as a clam, but #7, whether he's a decoy or not, needs to see the field until the game is no longer in doubt. I'm fine with Guice/Williams coming in a play or two, but not a whole series. And not when we've already begun to let UF back in it.
Hindsight's 20/20. You're probably right, and I think I generally agree, but if Guice had made a play for a big first down (which he's more than capable of doing), we wouldn't be having this conversation. I agree that it should be Buga whenever and as often as possible, but he has to get a breather sometimes.

Miles gets happy being up by 14 and goes straight to vanilla mode to protect the lead.
Funny, I never heard these "vanilla" complaints when Buga broke his 70-yard runs early in the 3rd quarters of games. Hmmm.
quote:
and also seems like everytime we score and about to put a team away they always score an easy touchdown its either a kick off return or busted coverage for a long catch and run.
It's almost like our opponents - who are losing - are getting desperate for a score and decide to open up their playbook and be aggressive in an effort to make the game close.
But I agree, we do need to do a better job of buckling down on D early in the second half of games. We've come out flat a couple of times.

We won. End of story. Who's next? There is no dominant team this year in college football. All have their flaws. We have as good of a shot as any and I think we handle the rest or our schedule. It may be a one point victory in T-town but this year that is all we need. We play better there anyway. I also believe in football karma and we have some serious goodwill coming our way from the football gods.
