Ok a quick history lesson on Bert Jones:
1st start was Colorado 1971, and was benched for Paul Lyons who started every game until Notre Dame; which was Jones second start at qb.
Every time Jones came on the field between the Colorado game and the Notre Dame game in 1971 the LSU fans booed.
Paul had been playing very well in those games and set a LSU record for total yardage in a game vs Wisconsin.
Jones would go 62-38-0-611-6 over the final five games of the season, as Jones was improving every week Lyons effectiveness was going down; which lead to Jones starting the Notre Dame game.
In the Sun Bowl he was 18-12-0-219-3.
Going into 1972 there was no doubt Bert was the starting QB.
Jones only started 4 games his Jr year and was 3-1; counting the bowl game.
Could you see Les Miles sitting Jones until late his Jr. season today?

People that can't imagine they would love Herb Tyler as much as they love JR are people that 100% jumped on the LSU bandwagon since 2003. Same thing with the Rohan Davey thing.
Anybody who lived and died for LSU over the years would never consider JR the greatest. That is just for the bandwagon fans or the #1 NFL fans
The typical MSB crowd will make fun of you for saying that, but it's the God damned, absolute, fricking truth.
The level of complete trust the LSU Nation had in Hodson has not been matched for a QB since, and the amount of love that LSU Nation felt for Herb Tyler has not been matched for a QB since.

1. Jones- best college I ever saw play
2. Russell
Hodson lost to Ohio St and never was the same again. College or Pros.

Humm?
Maybe you are forgeting that in 1987 these players were Sr.?
WR Wendell Davis
WR Rogie Magee
TE Brian Kinchen
RB Sammy Martin
Also Harvey Williams was a So. and injuried and didn't play in 1988.
Tommy Hodson's stats for 1986 and 87 with those players:
1986 11/11 288-175-8-2219-19 60.7% 141.70
1987 11/10 265-162-9-2125-15 61.1% 140.317
Then came 1988, this is the year LSU replaced all the above players:
1988 11/11 293-154-12-2074-13 52.5% 118.469
Go watch the Auburn-LSU game of 1988 and tell me now many passes were dropped by WRs, RBs, TEs and that is only one game?
Example: Eddie Fuller in that game dropped 5 passes before catching the winning TD.
Then comes 1989 and LSU had to throw more:
1989 11/11 317-183-12-2655-22 57.7% 143.413
Notice Hodson's highest rating is his Sr season, and that year LSU still had a number of dropped passes (not near as many as 1988).

This is pretty much the dumbest thing I've EVER read on here. Surely, it has nothing to do with the fact that JR was a better QB than Tyler, and has the numbers to back it up. That can't be why 99% of people KNOW JR was better. NO way.

He did have the greatest single season by any LSU QB EVER. Please tell me which QB did better in ONE season.

and to you people, JR couldn't get it done at LSU, what makes you think he'll get it done in the NFL?
You're right, that Peyton Manning guy is a bum.
So is that Tom Brady guy.
And Elway.
And Marino.
And Montana.
And Young.

That's because most people who know a bit about college football would never dare say something as dumb as Herb Tyler was better than JaMarcus.
I dont mean any offense by this, but when you say that, you show that you have ZERO knowledge of the game.
How do you explain JR's stats his junior year, that Herb Tyler couldnt even dream of compiling?
