I listened to Moscona podcast & he said they should hit the guy last night. Yet they struggled. Anyone have ideas or was it just a bad night at plate?

It’s called the sport of baseball. It happens! Hopefully we wake up today and win this series which is a must win series

It would seem like a few players had no patience at the plate. But then, I was not standing at the plate seeing what the pitches looked like from that perspective.

The guy was on last night and we took some bad approaches at the plate with the 2 strikes.

Notice how many curve balls we continued to swing over the top on? LSU never adjusted to hit the ball the opposite way.

Because the team is mediocre and fighting for its postseason life

Samething that happened in the saturday game against auburn, their guy had his best stuff and we took a bad approach at the plate. IMO strike zone was weird, but we took too many 2 strike pitches, got to challenge them better and foul some off. No one besides morgan really does that on this team, sometimes beloso

We hit a lot of balls very hard in the first four innings. They just went right at the defense. Then he found his groove and was keeping us off balance

Hitting is the single hardest thing to do in all of sports. Hitting on the SEC level against elite arms is even harder. I always love how pundits and talking heads who couldn't hit a 55 MPH BP pitch moan and complain about the game.

Step in the box, until you do, you have no idea how difficult the game on this level is.

I play once every couple weeks still. And understand its hard. I get that, but what i cant stand is taking a 3rd strike pitch, if its close, challenge the pitcher, foul it, ground it, push it, whatever you have to do. Different story when its 7 inches off the plate and they call it

Oh here goes this shite again. It’s been an entire season, this team is just downright bad. It’s not the sport of baseball

You have milliseconds to recognize, locate, decide and swing. The ball explodes unlike anything you have ever seen. I played a long time, had quite a few at bats on the highest level and you simply cannot comprehend the way the ball moves and explodes on that level unless you step in and see it.

Not making excuses for hitters, but it is simply incomprehensible if you have never been there.

Yeah, i understand how baseball works. I also get that i havent played at that high of a level. But still, ive faced, 75-85 mph, still no excuse IMO to not swing at anything close with 2 strikes

Agree, boys keep trying to pull every pitch instead of going opposite way. Even Crews who usually hits every outside pitch to right field.

Crews is in a major slump. Seeing NOTHING but off speed and he and Smith have made no adjustments to go with the pitch. Oh well...

I assure you, they are not trying to not swing. The key to hitting is recognition and timing. The key to pitching is off setting timing and not allowing recognition of pitches or motions that give the hitter a chance to cheat.

The higher the level of pitching, the less time you have to recognize and the ball is moving and exploding so fast that if you hesitate a tenth of a second you are beat on that level. Only the big league level is tougher than what these guys are seeing in the SEC.

Crews seemed to be second guessing himself. He lays off a pitch and it catches the corner. The next pitch he chases because of guessing wrong on the first pitch. Then he starts to lose some confidence. He just needs a few good at bats to get that confidence back.

To answer the OP question: Yes it is hard to hit a baseball at that level and yes sometimes the opposing pitcher is having a good night. I also think energy can be contagious. An opossum runs across the field, the players get a little jolt of energy and they start hitting.

Sometimes the players are feeling it and sometimes not and that can spread from player to player. Think of the gif of Kramer saying "don't let me get hot". The coaches or team leaders can play a role in that. That is something Vitello and Cannizaro were good at. Mainieri not so much.

TCU was 1-hit last nite at home by ULM...I mean...I know people don’t like to hear “that’s baseball”...but sometimes it is.
