Fair enough. The statement "cops are horrible human beings" keeps you in the running though.....

benefits...negative

job security...better than average

union protection...huh??? if you're talking about civil service, then THAT'S a real joke. not even in the same vacinity as union protection.

good salary...if $35-40k a year is good enough for you, then ok.

I am very leery of police officers. Corruption is rampant. Sure there are good ones. I'm sure while countless hours of manpower was used on this case, there were people killing and raping all over town. My recent experiences with police have been very disappointing. And no, I have not been in trouble with the law

Older than that.

Regardless, I'm mature enough not to judge the entire group because I had a run-in with one a'hole. Got any morons where you work? Does that make you a moron?

The assholes where I work can't really do anything bad to me. Not so with cops. Any group with the ability to deprive a person of life and liberty on a whim should be regarded with extreme suspicion.

Median US personal income: somewhere around $25,000

Median Cop salary: somewhere around $50,000

so your low pay stuff is just bullshite, and that's before we even consider benefits, overtime, etc.

So far, I've destroyed your argument about the danger, at least in a relative sense, and about low pay.

And yes, I firmly agree that cops are horrible human beings. Anyone that would put another human being in a cage because of a victimless crime, like say, possession of a plant, deserves to be literally shite on (diarrhea shite, too).

the stats say you are safer being in north br. You know if they investigated all crime like they did this case maybe it wouldn't be a issue here.

honestly though my main problem with how they handled this case was all the talking in the fricking media and the circus they created.

Ordinarily I'd say the OT, but given the amount of crap that's been spewed on the Rant the past few days against police officers, I picked this one.... (the OT hasn't seemed to notice the recent events)......

Instead, BRPD, playing for the cameras, had to go ruin two people's lives by charging them with a felony.

Congratulations on "destroying" my arguments. Your maturity continues to show.

I stand by my original post - I, for one, am glad that there are people to accept the job of enforcing the law.

Yeah as I said, maybe they've screwed some things up here. I'm just saying they didn't do it out of malice - they're in a shitty spot here.

A lot of crap on here lately about the BRPD. They're under pressure, and who knows, maybe they've made some mistakes. Let's not forget that these guys (and gals)volunteered to receive shitty pay to risk their lives to protect the citizens of Baton Rouge.

The Catch 22 is that the kind of person drawn to this job is the kind of person who shouldn't be allowed to have that kind of authority.

All detectives were promoted cops. So they equally suck.

The psychology of police is certainly deserving of discussion, but likely is far too complex to get into on here. I know you are an intelligent guy, Jim, and I'd be willing to bet that you've read some of the academic studies on the types of people that law enforcement attracts. They (the studies) are quite disturbing.
