The whole "an injury away" argument is really stupid.
You could say that about the vast majority of teams across the country.

How our fanbase forgets that we played our 3rd string and 4th string qb's in 2008! Have to include RP and then Hatch got hurt. I would have like to seen Florida do that and win the NC. Doubt it.

Texas is in a very similar situation to what we will have in 2012 this year

gilbert was groomed last year and is a super of a super stud QB that you can get. LSU doesn't have one of those

if we had another jamarucs committed, i'd be feeling better

Alabama's D did not plan for Gilbert to play. If they did, I think the game would have been different and he would not have done shite.

The offense didn't drastically change when Gilbert went in.

Basically Gilbert didn't run as much as Colt would have. Whatever happened to Nick Saban's "Make his arse quit?" It's not like Texas had a special offense installed just for Garrett Gilbert.

Great, so now you have a one-dimensional quarterback instead of a dual-threat quarterback to stop.

I understand, but they put all of their scouting on Mccoy. All of a sudden he is injured and they don't know shite about Gilbert. He just caught them off guard is all I am saying. If McCoy would have played, I think Bama would have won by more.

Why don't we wait to see how Rivers develops over the next two years before you throw in the towel. Not much was thought about his brother after his Junior year of HS and he turned out pretty good.

colt was an overrated runner

UT is a spread team and passing is their game

rivers is pretty much universally labeled as a project without elite physical tools

Once again, the major complaint is not the quarterback situation for 2010

Once again these statements are all false. This board was cluttered with threads saying they are more worried about 2010 and 2011 because we dont have a 3rd string qb. There are the fair share of bailey lovers and haters on this board.

If you visited the rant once yesterday there were people worried about every season.

which is why I dont get how they keep signing relatively high ranked 4 star RB's, still living off Ricky and Cedric Benson I guess (maybe J. Charles).

ETA: Austin is a pretty easy sell for kids from Texas...

Not that hard. McCoy was two-dimensional, Gilbert was one-dimensional. It should have been easier for Alabama to contain him, not having to worry about his scrambling. It looks like Texas had already put a muzzle on him when he first came in anyway. Bama really didn't have to do much at the start.

gotcha, i wasn't really talking about changing defensive schemes due to the different style. more of the fact that it was a frosh getting his first real action.

like you said, where was the saban "make him quit" defense.

From a UT guy, GG will be under center most of the time to fit his skill set... Depending on Newton to break out at RB..

FWIW, I think Bama got conservative when they got the lead once McCoy went out

By who... link?
He must have something going for him to get offers from Arizona St, Florida St, Mississippi St, North Carolina St, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt and LSU. There are lost of highly regarded QB coaches in that list that offered Rivers. They must see more than you.

Just because JJ and JL were not ready to play as freshman when their mindset was they didn't have to be ready leading up to the season they were forced into action does not mean a prospect like Rivers that has been groomed to play QB his entire life would not come in with a better mental mindset and leadership knowing he had to be ready to compete right off the bat.

Yeah, but they have a sophomore that stepped onto the biggest stage in college football as a true fresh and almost led a 2nd half comeback against one of the best defenses in college football. I dont think out situations are the same
If I'm not mistaken, he completed about 30% of his passes and threw 4 ints.
