I hope some time this season Miles lets TC finish a blowout by letting him take a knee

This story is very nice.

Christy McCartney also had a son with another Buffalo in 1994. This time, the father was Shannon Clevelle from New Orleans.

I think that in a weird kind of way, though, the harder and more frustrating Sal might have been to deal with, the more it says about the people who constantly surrounded him with love, and the more it says about a son who still wants to carry on his father's legacy, even knowing that his father's legacy was somewhat flawed.

This is true

About time we saw something in the news (I know, I know, ESPN...not FOX or MSNBC) that leaves you feeling much better for the time spent watching!

His dad doesn't seem anything close to a prince of a guy. It's a sad story but just from watching the peice T.C. seems to be a better man.

Sal Aunese was definitely flawed, as well all are, but put yourself in his shoes before you judge too much. He was a starting QB who didn't just get a girl pregnant, he got the COACH'S DAUGHTER pregnant. Not just that, a coach who is a devout Christian and is very much opposed to that sort of thing. I'm sure he was pretty freaked out, as she was, too. There was more than a little pressure on them, especially when the story went public. There is no doubt that he didn't handle things like he should have, but at least he came around in the end. He ended up spending time with both of them while he was sick and cleaned his life up and became a Christian. At least he did make that step before he died so his son and her mother could remember him in a positive light.

The story didnt go public until after his death.....at his funeral. They kept the fact that he was indeed the father hush hush up to that point.

I am embarassed that a story that big was handed to me by ESPN last Saturday morning considering how much time I spend on this LSU site, when the Sal Aunese story was The Single Biggest Story in college football when I was young.

Bill McCartney was an incredible coach and an even better Man. My son was wondering why his father was tearing up watching the abbreviated verson on GameDay. I had absolutely no ties to University of Colorado, but every single person I knew at the time was pulling for the Buffaloes to win it all that year against the then mighty Notre Dame.

I have always had a great deal of admiration for Les Miles...his character will define his Legacy here at LSU. I may second-guess a playcall during a game every now and then, but I will never question that Les Miles is the finest architect of a football program designed to create leaders on the field and especially off the field.

I hope that T.C. McCarthy gets to see a lot of playing time over the next few years, and benefits from the wisdom shared by an outstanding football coach, Les Miles.

It's a great story because it's imperfect, sad, but pretty uplifting as well.

I liked the Denver Post article a couple of years ago, mainly because the whole clan is wearing LSU gear in one picture:

The fact that Les Miles made it a point to pursue T.C. McCarthy further galvanizes him as a coach who is building a program of leaders, in my opinion.

to Coach McCartney wearing the purple and gold.

"His chances seemed bleak now, and his only options appeared to be smaller colleges, or a non-BCS school such as Idaho.

But then he got a phone call … from Les Miles."

He's a preferred walk-on, according to the online version:

"His grandfather, who lived next door, taught him to play quarterback like his dad. By high school T.C. was bigger than his dad at 6'3", owner of a stronger arm, and then he got a phone call from that same ambitious football coach, Les Miles, now the head man at LSU."

He may not have earned a scholarship yet, but he gave him a spot on the team

I thought the same as you. Sal was the starting QB, a star on the team, got the girl pregnant, then refused to married her He was a dick in my opinion.

If you have a daughter being used like that, how would you feel???
