TBT: LSU 27 Auburn 14 Dec 2001

Was that the game when the band ran over the Auburn kicker?
Was at that game with my Uncle, which was his last game. Dec. 1, 2001. We sat in the East Upper handicapped section on the 45. Fantastic seats.
A local tailgating krewe let me push his wheelchair right into their spot and gave him food and drink. He loved it.
TGBFTL was still performing their halftime show, and this clown Duval (originally from Morgan City, BTW) starts lining up balls on the tee and practicing kicks on the South end of the field while the Band was on the other end - MARCHING RIGHT TOWARD HIM.
An LSU tuba player does not even flinch or vary an inch in his stride, and knocks Duval on his scrawny arse, whereupon he gets up and gives an annoyed head shake. Needless to say he was booed loudly.
There were cigars everywhere and the Death Valley crowd wanted BLOOD that night. It was awesome.
Uncle Terry passed unexpectedly 5 days later, but at least he got to see Tiger Stadium in her glory.

It's been some time, but IIRC lots of folks didn't leave at the conclusion of the game, at least in the student section. I remember someone getting on the PA to ask the band to stop playing... and they didn't.
It was an awesome experience. Like someone else said, looking back now you could easily point to that night as the game that ushered in the Golden Age of LSU football.

This was the game that started the Golden Age of LSU Football, FWIW.
I feel like the Tennessee game in 2000 was the beginning.

Man, what happened to Josh Reed in his pro career?
Josh was short and lacked the breakaway speed that most successful short wideouts in the NFL have. Nevertheless he was a reliable #2 and #3 receiver for most of his career, specializing in 3rd down catches. All told he caught 311 balls for 3575 yards and 10 scores in 8 seasons. He was also known for toughness, losing only 2 fumbles in his entire career and none during his final 6 seasons.

Myself. I remember thinking after Davey to Royal won the game in OT that Saban was going to bring the program back to the top before he was through. You could just sense that the team had a swagger about them that hadn't been seen except in spurts here and there for several decades.

I hate to say this, but...
Had LSU played that game when it was supposed to, I don't think we win.

The band coming down the hill at night is the tits
my dad and I stumbled into the band around the pentagon. One of the directors told us to get in the back and act like we belonged there. We were right behind the band that night. It was awesome.
That whole game something can never be recreated. A play in game for the division, the cigars, it was dark at like 5, the onside kick, stumping the eye, the band fight.....
that crowd was on fire. Auburn did not stand a chance. Easily my favorite game I have ever been too.

For the record, Josh Reed had 19 catches against Alabama in 2001, not 17.
Rohan was 35/44 for 528.
Rohan to reed was so sexy

The crowd was freaking great that game. And honestly, they certainly didn't have to be after we shite the bed vs UAB the week before...

Speaking for the entire season....
Who else here thinks that at the rate we were playing in comparison to the first 3 games, that we had become unbeatable by the end of the year? We were playing outstanding by year's end.

Interesting side note to that Tennessee game. During the week leading up to it, a Tennessee Knoxville News-Sentinel sportswriter penned a big article entitled "The Death of Death Valley" and proceeded to shite on the Tiger Stadium mystique and say it was long gone and the most overrated place to play, etc. - (ostensibly because we had lost to UAB 13-10 the previous Saturday.)
I don't know how much that article affected the environment (I daresay it still would have been awesome - Death Valley ALWAYS gets up for big games); but I'm here to tell you, I was at that game, and the SOUND was unreal, it almost rivaled USC '79. From then on, we were back.....

And not only that, some show like Ripley's Believe It or Not filmed a segment in the stadium with some chick shooting flaming arrows upside down with her feet. I really wonder if anyone has any footage of that.

I wish LSU would paint the endzones and sidelines like that again.
