I didn't read the article, but Iowa had horrible clock management on that last drive. They had time for at least two more plays, but they just moseyed around and killed so much time that the clock almost ran out. LSU wasn't even prepard to defend the hail mary-ish play because Iowa should have been attempting another play or two to try and chop off some yards.

Bizarre.

That would have put the ball at the LSU 46. Since their K wasn't Justin Tucker they're not in FG range. They snapped the ball with 9 seconds left so at most they're running 1 more play, their TOs weren't a huge factor.

Just looked, you are correct. A twenty yard completion would have beaten them. The idea was to make him get rid of it quickly. One of two schools of thought.

Agreed. If not for the bad clock mgmt, LSU likely wins or at worst, loses on a long field goal.

Ferentzesque clock mgmt. Iowa's lost so many games by less than a TD where clock mgmt was an issue in his career it's pretty sickening

Why the frick did we have 7 in the box on that play?

Saban was busy NOT going to Miami.

Sounds like he and Les Miles may have gone to the same school of clock management. At least your coach never did a silly dance down the sideline like a fool while screaming "clock it" to your QB, then denied the whole thing, despite extensive video evidence.

Why do you have to remind us? I tried to rid my brain of this horrific experience.

Oh, and then this year happened.

Damnit.

I guess it makes me feel better somehow that that win seems to be a big game in Iowa history. Saban certainly didn't give two shits about it at the time.

That is the one thing that originally turned me off to Saban. Let the gumps think that it's all about them but Nick was a prick and it wasn't until he left that the truth really came out.

Didn't Nick pretty much totally rag out Prude and put the blame 100% on him in the locker room just before leaving the room and the program without so much as a goodbye and thanks (for making my career) for the effort?

I don't want to take anything away from the awesome effort that Iowa put forth and I am only saying how wretched Nick acted on his way out.

Funny thing is, that Russell never would have played in that game if Randle didn't get the crap pounded out of him.

Great effort by Jamarcus where he just kept letting it fly and was absolutely dialed in.

We played the same front four on defense that whole game and they were absolutely gassed in the fourth quarter. Roth could barely make it off the field after the last failed two point attempt by the Tigers.

Great hard hitting game with more than a few big plays by really good players.

Meh...Lsu played down and Iowa played up. If those two teams meet in regular season where Saban and team cared, we win by 2 tds. One of the stupid things about bowl games... The ok kids play hard because it's their last game ever and the really good guys have one eye on the NFL.

Sucks to be LSU in a bowl game then. Hope the Hawks come out and absolutely demoralize you guys.

They've only won the Big Ten once since then, leading to an Orange Bowl win over Georgia Tech.

Zero BT championships since then. In 2009 OSU beat us in OT, 2nd to last week of the season in a defacto championship game. They went to rose bowl and beat Oregon, Iowa won Orange, Wisconsin won Champ Sports over Miami.

Depends on the makeup of our team...if lots of seniors and draft eligibles we don't play well.... Yet our bowl record is still pretty good. Nobody is gonna be demoralized if we lose...angry yes but demoralized...no.
