Most fans have an inability to view total package of LSU coaches.

It is tiring to read of how PM did good this year despite a lack of talent.

It's almost as if the coach has no role in recruiting...like he just shows up and says, "alright so this is who we have to work with?"

A good coach must be the total package with the ability to recruit and coach. You can get by with just 1 for a while but need both to thrive.

We won the SEC (by far the best conference in college baseball), won 7 0f 9 games against SEC CWS participants, and were within 1 win of going to Omaha when we ran into a hot team. A little more than "OK."

I see the "company line" has been passed throughout the Coaches' Committee. Maybe if I hear it enough, it'll make me feel better.

At the end of the day, the question is and always should be: did we make Omaha?

So NR in BA means we were worse than 40 for those 2 years? Seems way different than CB??

BA ranks 1 through 25.
Collegiate Baseball ranks 1 through 40.

When it comes to draft eligible prospects, BA is much more knowledgeable than Collegiate Baseball.

Funny. I have been to just a few baseball games in person, and have never been a "Coaches Committee" member and whatever that entails. What I do know is I have been watching LSU sports for close to 50 years. If you want to get rid of a coach who won a national c'ship 3 years ago, then don't whine when we get a second rate replacement. No good coach in his right mind would touch this job if we got rid of Mainieri after next year. What do we tell the replacement? You got 3 years to win a national c'ship or you are gone?
Baseball is much more competitive now than in the 1990's. Consequently, it is much harder to go to Omaha.

Couldn't agree more with you, which is why I'd be hesitant to dumb Mainieri next year if he didn't make Omaha.

Not so sure about that, though.

After next year, Mainieri will have had 4 years to get back to Omaha after winning a National Championship. I would hope that he does because I think that's a reasonable amount of time. Also, I've seen a lot of people equate going to Omaha with winning a National Championship. That simply aren't the same thing/goal so I don't know why people continue to make this assertion.

True.

True, but maybe 2 other programs have the resources LSU and Mainieri have. We have a significant advantage over just about every other team.

Gamecocks seem to have no trouble getting there. I would not say it's that's much harder.

How would you rate the talent in the 2012 class, not counting players going pro

making it to omaha and not winning must be a florida thing. Because FSU loves to do things like this when they make it to Ohama.

2nd most CWS appearances but NO national championships

Bregman is the top talent we have gotten on campus since Gausman. I think he'll be more effective and consistent than Jones has been. I expect him to have an impact comparable to Lemahieu (minus some of the power).

They upgraded the talent in the outfield, but that's relative comparing how little athleticism and speed there was to begin with out there. Nonetheless, an upgrade.

Bregman is going to be a superstar. Besides him, Chinnea will contribute in a few years (if he doesn't DH this year) and some of the outfielders are going to be solid SEC players.

It's a good class and it's the type of class that Mainieri should have been bringing in immediately upon deciding that he wanted to go with a "small-ball" approach.

They're trying to move Chinea to 1B at the time being hoping he can field that spot.

Interesting. Then I'm guessing Moore to 3rd, Katz to RF?

Amazing the disparity between the two publications.

They want a power bat at 1B. Obviously Chinea could be that guy. 3B is going to be wide open this fall. Moore, Powell, Bregman etc... will all get a shot.

I still think Bregman will start at SS/2B. He can play any infield position so he'll be on the field somewhere.
