Mathis is just a fundamentally bad catcher. I've watched him all year and have commented on his mechanics, especially coming up out of his stance when trying to throw out runners.

I agree, but lots of people bagging on Mathis about missing the curves. Just reminding everyone there was another play that factored into the loss

what about Smith going 2/5 Duplantis 1/6 Belso 1/5 Cabrera 1/8 Watson 1/6

Appears to me it should not all fall upon Mathis. The hitters couldn't get the clutch hits when needed.

So stop all your bitching bitches.

Mathis started like 30 games for us, He has not had a million passed balls, such that Paul would have thought he was sacrificing defense. In fact, before last night I would say that Mathis and Garza are similar behind the plate, except Mathis is terrible throwing to second while Garza is only poor. And Garza hits better. But in extra innings you have to gamble that you won’t have nine more at bats.

The real question about catcher is why are we two years into having directional school catching?

That move cost us a regional, which cost us the season in all likelihood.

1. The odds were very strong that the catcher would not bat again.
2. Mathis is just as good at blocking as Garza is.
3. Garza was probably exhausted from catching so many innings in two days.
4. Garza is coming off an injury which prevented him from playing at all for much of this year.

Hal hasn’t gotten a hit in a month

I just bet that he has more hits in the past month than Cabrera. Of course that isn't saying much. Cabrera has left a boat load of baserunners stranded in the past month.

Exactly. And how do we know if Garza didn't tell coach his knee is hurting. Or if the coaches didn't see him limping or favoring that knee going into the dugout or something. Catching is hard on even the most healthy.
