Tailgating questions….What’s the best day/time to arrive when it’s not so crowded?

I am a Bama fan, but did not come on here to stir the pot. I live out of state and have always wanted to attend a home game tailgating to experience the Cajun food and atmosphere. Would you recommend a Baton Rouge motel (no RV) or not? How much does gumbo usually cost? Thanks for your input! Gene

The bigger the opponent, the earlier you'll want to arrive. Gameday made parking almost impossible before 9am. You can get to campus before 11am most days and have enough free parking to choose from.

OYO Hotel is a longstanding joke. Do not go there. Go to any reputable hotel (Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, etc.)

You can go to The Chimes or Parrain's near campus and get a cup of gumbo for less than $9 and it'll be fine. It's not going to be as good as gumbo made at someone's home but it'll be good enough.

Stay at the L'Auberge Casino so you can enjoy the sports book on Sunday. If you come for a night game plan to be on campus by noon. Walk around and talk to people and you'll have all the gumbo you can eat for free.

It's a catch 22. Go for a rent a win and the logistics will be a lot easier but you won't have the same atmosphere. A big game will be the full experience but traffic, parking, etc. will be a nightmare. Either way, I would suggest a shuttle from your hotel if available or try to find a parking pass on one of the ticket exchanges.

How much tailgates charge varies but for Bama fans it's usually $25 for a bowl and we fill it with mostly rice

It's honestly not that bad getting to campus if you use I10, hit levee road, and then park in the free lots off of Gourrier drive by the tennis complex. Just book a hotel early when the schedule first gets announced, away teams usually stay at the Marriott off College drive and there's a handful of decent hotels in that strip
