...First of all, nobody "owns" a "spot". Thats BS. That has always been a pet peeve of mine. You can set up anywhere you want that is cleared by the university. If folks want to always get a certain spot, then they have to get there first. Period. If you get out there early Saturday - most games 8:00 AM-ish is good, you should be able to find a good spot. That being said, The Florida Game will obviously be a very high demand for good spots. So, act accordingly, and just don't "spread out" over too wide an area. Have some respect for your fellow tailgaters when space will be at premium. Good Luck.

It's more about being irritated at the bandwagoning

Same thing I said last year for baseball. Come regionals and supers ......5 times as many "fans" than in March. Those who were there through the rain for the Vandy game now have to contend with the front runners for parking/tailgating spots.

but there is a line of respect you have to give a tailgate krewe that has held a spot for a given amount of games/seasons. be/c some groups plan their entire tailgate around their spot. the way things fit in certain places, arrangement of their stuff, etc.

i look at it a lot like a fishing spot. if i'm in a spot, reeling fish in left & right, don't come trolling in & messing up my set up.

however, true/respectful long time tailgaters will help the newbies set up & sometimes even let them borrow certain items to help their tailgate along. before you know it, the 2 become 1 larger tailgate.

...Its not always just "band-wagoning"...some folks ( like me ) can't go out and spend the entire day on football Saturdays -every Saturday -tailgating. Every year we pick two games from the schedule ( of course you pick the most attractive, right? ) and plan accordingly. We don't think thats a bandwagon"

There are always open spots on the parade grounds, even for big games

How about for big games where College Gameday is also set up on the parade grounds?

I won't mess you up that day. But I bet I beat you to the launch the next Saturday.
