re: TAF membership 'spikes' over the past 3 weeks

I'm referring to the spike in total TAF members just in the last 21 days ! i.e. there were 19,870 TAF members on 6/28 and my rank was #2953...today there are 20,933 and my rank has 'fallen' to #3059.
Philanthropic "contributors" numbered 15,050 on 6/28 and my rank was #1863...today there are 16,238 contributors and my rank has fallen to #2007...and that is after adding another pair of tickets with a mandatory 'contribution' for a friend !
Is that clearer ?

nah...they just take reasonable donations consistently over time. You get a lot more points for the first $100 that you contribute each year than you do for incremental dollars. your best bang for your buck is just to contribute the $100 taf membership fee and then throw a little at one of the philanthropic options every few years to separate yourself from the pack.
