I've said it before, and I'll say it again. LSU football died a little that night. And it was exactly for that reason. Slive and the SEC machine sucked the life out of LSU by lobbying so hard to get Bama back in it. It's the most unfair thing that ever happened in the BCS era. Good riddance.
so that's the reason Jefferson played the whole game to run the same plays over & over again? got it

Tennessee was probably upset in 2001, they beat us during regualar season and we beat them in SEC Championship game...you gotta play who's in front of you, no excuses.

I'm sure you're already aware how different that is compared to 2011's situation.

Somewhat different yes... but Tennessee still had to beat us twice to win the title. Just sayin'.
We should have split the National Title w/ Bama in 2011.

But in the end, the BCS worked and the best team was crowned NC.

Disagree there. Purpose of the BCS was to get a national champion match-up outside of the major bowl system, not to replay games.

In college football and the BCS, the regular season was the play-off, where every game counted until that game. This pseudo-4 team playoff killed that off.

but they were the best 2 teams in the country...so I think they got it right, as unfair as it was...but life's unfair. Beating them twice, they would have been known historically as one of the best teams of all time. That alone should have given them motivation.

That has never mattered in the BCS. The next year, they played Notre Dame, were favored by 2 scores, and crushed them. The very next year, they threw that "2 best teams" nonsense out the window. I don't care if ND was undefeated, they didn't deserve to be there any more than Bama did the previous year, as a default.

The media told our team "you have to beat them twice to earn the championship." I certainly see how that is deflating for a team, especially one that played with so much (*hesitates) swag.

Not to mention, the SEC championship game (which ends up meaning nothing), gave the JJ train to slow down.

After that game I was like... WTF??? No 1st downs in the 1st half???? UGA could have beatdown LSU IF they don't make the mistakes in the 1st half.....

Funny thing is, I wonder if we lose that game, does Bama still get a redo?

To me it wasn't so bad that JJ started but that Les made NO changes to ignite this offense. He did it against Georgia and got lucky he had TM7 bail him out. Against Bama he sat and watched this team fail, the offensive numbers before JJ took over.

LSU football, at least from the fanbase perspective, has not recovered from the mulligan. Bc that schedule was epic, and that team crushed all comers. It was a rare chance to make history, to have the greatest season in college history.

Now, we've never avenged that loss and frankly never will bc its doubtful LSU will ever meet Bama in a championship game. The continued success of Bama since has worsened it.

TBH, there wasnt much Les could do to beat Bama again. Their defense was too good and LSU's passing too limited. Yes he should've tried JL or even Mett, but in the end Bama was gonna win. LSU was good enough to win once but not twice. And in any other year or against any other opponent, once is enough. But special accommodation was made this one time.

Bama was super excited at the BCS announcement. LSU was visibly blasé. It was over before it began.

Nah, the powers that be would've cited 2006 Michigan and said no rematch.

Disagree. Per JJ and DeAngelo in post-game interviews they both hinted that we didn't really try the game plan as planned, i.e., go 5 wide like Utah.

It might be just me, but I think the Nov '12 Bama game hurt worse than the 1/9 game... Both costing us a NC...

Yeah, we should have started the guy who played like a deer in the head lights against Alabama to the tune of a QB rating of 60 in fours years of games.

That's the ticket, dumbass.
