Completely agree. If we were truly that good, we should have beaten them again like we did to Georgia in 03. Les was waiting for that spark to happen like it did against Arkie and Georgia. Just never happened.
It was the perfect storm for LSU to lose. I'm sure there is some truth that our guys didn't want to play them again but regardless they had to. It was the night McCarron had his coming out party. He ate up our secondary with short passes to the outside. As someone stated earlier they put the game on his shoulders and he came through. If anything, before the game I thought he was their weakness but he definitely proved me wrong.
LSU had started slow every game that year but turned it on at some point and that never happened in the NCG. LSU played flat and Bama was absolutely the better team that night. As bad as we played we were only down 15 late in the game and we held Bama to 4 field goals. Not too shabby by the defense but they got no offensive help and just couldn't keep it up. Our offense wasn't in sync, that shovel pass form JJ to the Bama defender after Ware turned around was unbelievable.
I don't go in for all of the conspiracies about the game. We just played our worst on the biggest stage and Bama was ready.

I don't think anyone would or is argueing that he wasn't a better QB than Lee or Jefferson
2011 Mett /= 2012 Mett /= 2013 Mett

I don't believe in conspiracy theories either, I just believe in bad coaching.

Interesting.
So if it was just bad coaching, was it great coaching that allowed them to have the greatest regular season in LSU football history? I'm interested to know if you give CLM credit for that or just the blame for the NCG loss.

I was talking about 2013 version of Mett being bettr than 2011 Lee/Jefferson but failed to designate so. I should have been clearer. But don't think even the 2013 version of Mett would have had any success in the 1/9 game unless he also brought along 2013 versions of OBJ, Landry , Hill and some bigger tougher olinemen with him.

Of course I agree with you Spooky, they were on track to be the greatest football team in the modern era.
But it was bad preparation and bad game plan and no adjustments - I guess it must be the Golden Girls the screwed the pouch, how could CLM be responsible for the most humiliating performance in LSU history.

The funny thing is, if the BCS hadn't cowered to USC's bitching after 2003, the SOS element would have still existed and OK State probably would have gotten in over Bama. All they had to do was leave that in and mandate only conference champions were eligible and I don't think we have a playoff.
You just summed up the joke that is CFB in two sentences.
The system will get changed again as soon as a darling needs it. Bank on it.

wasn't his best coaching job but ws facing a far superior team talent wise and team still held tough for most of the game before finally collapsing late.

You make some good points. I agree that CLM will have to win another title to begin to bury than miscarriage of a coaching effort.

Had a divorce and a few deaths in the family.... But 1/9 still stings the most. Sorry, but it's true.

I just read through this thread. I'm considerably dumber now for doing so...

There was an altercation but it was at half time. There was definitely a divide in the team, and it flared up in the locker room at halftime. It's all in the past and it's not really our business as fans, it happens more than people know on a lot of teams on all levels.
This is called "frustration" because the first half obviously did not go well. It happens it high school and even in college.

We were not exactly playing the Sisters of the Poor.
The "most humiliating performance in LSU history" goes to our UAB loss in TS. imo
That was, without a doubt, the very most miserable game I ever witnessed and I have never felt lower or more humiliated as a LSU fan than I did walking out of TS that night. I didn't nearly feel as depressed bout the status of the LSU football program after the NCG loss as I did after the UAB game, but each to our own.

Agree here... Saban made adjustments pregame from what happened the game before. Miles made zero... Or just maybe Bama was the better team... They made a lot of mistakes the 1st game and LSU took advantage of great punting.... The LSU D in game 2 played its heart out,,, Just finally got beaten down... JJ played a horrible game but didn't get a lot of help... IMO putting Lee in may have helped "only" if he was able to complete a pass downfield that may have sparked the team........ It was 4 years ago and I just find talking about it now means nothing...........

Nope... That would be the Miami Ohio game in 1986. That LSU team was a top ten team... The 2000 team was not.....

We're 2 weeks away from opening kickoff of the 2015 season and what is one of the hottest threads on tRant?
The 1-9-12 Meltdown continues.
Yes, 1-9-12 was devastating to the LSU fanbase. Yes, LSU beat Bama in the regular season and was on its way to college football history. Yes, LSU choked against a Saban-led Bama football team that took it all away in the big one.
LSU fans would certainly have been down if LSU had lost to Oklahoma State, but to lose to Alabama was a crushing disppointment of epic proportions.
This thread is proof that the damage to the collective psyche of the LSU fanbase has been catastrophic... all the fingerpointing at players, at coaches and at each other... going on nearly 4 years!
Take the advice of the man who rebuilt LSU Football and move on. Let go of the loss and let go of Nick Saban. 1-9-12 can't be undone.

If only we could get them to do that.
They can't even have a qb thread without these tards starting to fight about Lee vs Jefferson.
I'm ready for some damn football.
