If Hebert doesn't panic and gives Jefferson one more second to finish his cadence, then we have a free play.

A free play against 13 defenders. Think about that. Think really, really hard.

I believe you are a dumbarse and need to STFU. This has been hashed out several times since the game and T-Bob hiked the ball as a lesson learned. Stop being a jackass and give credit where credit is do.

Dude, watch the replay. There is still only going to be one defender covering Toliver. It doesn't matter if Tennessee had 50 players on the other side of the field.

My point is that, if Ridley had failed to get in the end zone after the penalty, T-Bob's premature snap would have cost us a chance to win (not a very good chance, because Crowton's an idiot, but a chance).

You don't? Watch it carefully. What would make you think that his cadence was going to last three more seconds?

Yeah, after re-watching it you may be right. I can't imagine a scenario where Jefferson lets a game end without getting a play off....

With six seconds left, Jefferson is giving the call to the line and Ridley. At five seconds, Jefferson is glancing at the WRs on the left and looking at the coverage. Ridley and Hurst are not set. At four seconds, Jefferson begins his cadence for the snap. At three seconds, Jefferson appears to be in the process of starting to stamp his leg to call for the ball, as a QB would in a visiting stadium, because the crowd noise would likely prevent his cadence from being heard. At this time, it appears to me that Jefferson is quickly looking at the defense in front of him to assess whether Peterson is likely to be open in the event that the play to Toliver isn't there.

Interesting, sounds like a JFK conspiracy theory..

So Tennessee could have had 50 defenders and you still think Tolliver would be open? Would JJ be magically levitating above the 30 or so defenders in the backfield right after the ball is snapped?

Just stop digging already. PLEASE STOP.

dude jefferson completed 30% of his passes with an open field against 11 players...no way he was completing a pass with only 10 yards to work with against 13 players

What confidence do any of you have that Jefferson-to-Toliver in the end zone results in a completed pass?

well considering he hadn't completed a pass for a TD in 17 quarters before that, not much confidence. The kid sucks at throwing the ball.

nobody did anything correctly on that last play. there is so much blame to go around, why try to pin it any one person?

for anyone disputing my math above

2 quarters vs. UNC
4 vs. Vandy
4 vs. State
4 vs. WV
and 3 vs. Tennessee

jefferson won't that long without a TD pass to that point. Now 4 vs. Tennessee. 18 quarters without a TD pass

Watch the replay. Tennessee is rushing 6 guys. There would have been time for Jefferson to get a throw off.

I'm not saying that the odds of the play are high. In fact, half of my post is about what a bad call it is. But it did have a chance to work.

Who is trying to pin it on one person? Certainly not me, though I think that Gary Crowton deserves the biggest helping of blame.

if they were rushing 6 then seven were in coverage on 4 WR they would have blanketed the end-zone

I believe T-Bob panicked and simply snapped the ball too early. To me, Jefferson seems aware of the clock, and there was no way that his cadence was going to last three more seconds. Contrary to popular opinion, it appears that T-Bob, rather than Jefferson, is the one who lacked clock awareness.
I wouldn't say that Hebert lacked clock awareness. Snapping it premature is better than not snapping it at all.

However, I agree that Hebert snapped it too early. He snapped it just before Jefferson was going to call for the ball.

No one could ever know this. He may have or he may have let the clock run out.
