1. 2004 LSU, as a program, was not established like 2008 LSU is. Saban was still building a program and it didn't have the depth to deal with losing 3 key juniors and a bunch of seniors. 2008 does have that depth

2. 2008 Troy DOMINATED LSU FOR 75% OF THE GAME. 2004 Troy kept it close in a sloppy game where we turned it over. at no point did 2008 get dominated by 2004 Troy.

In his fifth year? Coming off an NC? Having played in two BCS games?

Not buying it.

we avoided key injuries in 2003 and had some players play out of their arse (JV)

2007 was a completely different point in the program

you're not even making a point

Not really one of your better arguments, since talent as a concept was and is utterly subjective. You lost a lot of steam last year when half of our potential draft picks ate arse at the combine, anyway.

You forget the third key difference - the 2004 Tigers could not have engineered a comeback from 28 points down against any team. Due mostly to the fact that Saban's head would have exploded.

5th year = 1 full recruiting class as RS Seniors

that 2003 team was built in the 2001 recruiting class. we didn't have the opportunity to have 3-4 top 5 recruiting classes backing up the depth until we won the national title in 2003. then we were established

this team has top 5 talent

even that 2003 LSU team didn't

Hmmm But isn't also a fact that the TROY program was nothing like it was then

LEt us recall they They began playing in the NCAA's Division I-A in 2001

I think they have made so great strides since 2004

Saban had been there since late '99. They were his players in '04. He had just won a NC. How can you say he was still "program building". Oh, and the last year's team lost a lot of key seniors and team leaders at key positions--QB, both CB's, All-American DT, starting safety, starting RB, etc.

yeah they had demarcus ware on that team and don't have anyone close to as talented as him now

troy lost a lot in the offseason, if you didn't know

You forgot to add the 3rd big difference which is we have to play a freshman QB.

Doesn't matter how you want to spin it, LSU played down to its opponent both years.

becuase it takes more than 5 years to fill your 3 deep with 4 and 5 star talent

LSU was a joke when saban took over and it took a lot to get LSU to the recruiting position that it's at now

and this is miles' strongest suit (recruiting), and he's had 3.5 of his own recruiting classes to build depth

fricking rantards.

In 2004 we were talented, but we were not a top team in terms of talent and depth. NOW we arguably the most talented in the country.

Saban took them to a bowl game his first year and every year thereafter. It's not as if the cupboard was bare. Yes, he recruited better and better, but you act as if he took over Tulane.
