Stigma about games being “called fairly”

I saw someone post this on the sec rant in response to a post saying last nights game was called unfairly in favor of Kentucky

“Lol what? 17 fouls for both teams”

I have seen this logic before with Alabama fans defending their alleged favor with refs in football.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. This logic suggests that if UK fouled LSU 30 times last night and got called for 17, and LSU fouled 15 times and were called for 17, that the game was called fairly. This seems to be flawed logic to me.

It's not just the amount of missed calls, its the timing of the calls too.

Here's the thing you need to know about UK basketball fans:

Just like Alabama football fans, and LSU baseball fans, and Cardinals fans, and any other fanbase that gets praised for how well they know the game and all that other bullshite, they really don't know dick about anything other than their own team.

Yea that matters too but I feel like my point is more overlooked than the timing issue. Especially as it wasn’t really the timing last night that ticked me off

Lol that’s true. I would expect them to understand a basic concept like missed calls though

So true.

LSU drives the basket a lot and they have athletic bigs down low. They should always have the advantage in fouls. If its even, then you know the game wasnt called fairly for LSU unless its against another team thats built similarly.

I wish espn actually showed replays during the game of fouls. There were a bunch of calls in real time i thought were questionable and without replay i have no idea if they were the right call or not. For example, naz blocking the shot on the fast break and taylors foul with 6 seconds left.

Taylor got called for two fouls in about 3 seconds where I am not sure he fouled either time.

All to put UK at the line to tie.

I mean are you kidding me? One was on the missed UK shot at the end where both players are going for the rebound. I still never saw body to body contact and on the 6 second inbound play to get them to a one and one he was playing defense

so the whole "fairly" thing is bullshite. Neither of those fouls are called at the end of the game if the roles and score are reversed. They just arent and UK wins. Cause that's how the fair stuff works

Is this really applicable to Cardinals fans?

I'm asking b/c I've been a Cardinals fan all my life (I grew up in a family of Cards fans). But I've always lived here; so I would say I'm not around most Cardinals fan talk on bulletin boards or in the local media. I know you are a fan of the team as well and I think I've seen where you actually live in the St. Louis area; so you definitely would know better than I.

I guess I've always just found the Cardinals fan base to generally be pretty respectful of the game and other fan bases, and not have too much of an air about them in regards to things like this. Except for the '85 World Series of course. The first base ump definitely screwed the Cards there. Ha

Correct.
It’s a false argument and they know it.

Yeah, it's where the BFIB meme comes from. Self elected Best Fans in Baseball. It's probably a 75/25 split between Cardinals-only fans (the ones that only know Cardinals) and Cardinals/wider baseball fans.

It was your thread on the sec rant so I’m glad you agree

The refereeing last night was fine. Sure they missed some calls as all basketball refs do but there clearly was no bias either way. Anyone claiming there was is a delusional homer. There have been some terribly officiated games this year but last night was not one.

I don’t know, Smart, Reid, and Taylor for sure looked to have quite a few obvious fouls not get called against them, a lot of which resulted in transition baskets for KU.
