Knew this was coming sooner or later, I'd have been surprised to see the HBC still around in 2016. Pretty cool that his last game was as the coach of the home team wearing white in Tiger Stadium.

Well, he probably wants to hand the team down, and let the other coaches fogure out the future of the program for themselves. Hats off to the ole ball coach. Best wishes to him. We will always remember 1997!

Yeah, seemed burnt out and lost the passion to recruit anymore. Only if he could have went out on a better note

I don't think he was fired...

He is a legend. Typically they get respect.

Ill miss him, but truth be told, the spark was gone.

. It's going to be a great job for a coach to come in and establish a long career.

Not really, Columbia is a hell hole and almost impossible to recruit to. Spurrier performed miracles for them and his years will have been their best.

I do hope Steve gets an announcing gig, if he wants it of course. He may have been a dick for years, be he sure was always entertaining.

Really hope it's not health related.

Had the same thought. Here is what I posted in an SEC Rant thread:

quote:

Been talking with my buddy... Rewatched his post game presser after the LSU game, too. The way he sounded when he was talking about the issues he had with some of the players miscues, the talent level, and his own mistakes in the game, it is very clear that one of two things is happening: 1). His heart just isn't in it anymore. The old HBC wouldn't stand for the discipline driven miscues during the games, and would have been fiery as all hell in addressing it. Instead, he was almost indifferent post-game. 2). There is an off the field issue that is distracting him, possibly health or family issues. Hopefully it is the former rather than the latter.

He always wanted to coach here and held a grudge for a long time. He finally got his wish to coach a home game in Tiger Stadium and decided to go out on a high note.
