I think that Jennings needs to sit and learn, there is no need for him right now. I would hate for him to play too soon and lose his confidence.
Cam will shine and polish Jennings up then allow him to tear up the league.
He will sit 1.5 years before 2014. That is plenty. 2 springs, 2 summers, and a full season where he will get some PT in mop up and random packages.

I dont think name recognition has anything to do with it.
Developing an unknown guy would probably go further than someone with an NFL pedigree to a recruit that doesnt know anything about Stephen Rivers

Interesting narratives due to famous brothers in the NFL aren't what earns you the starting job.
The key is whether Coach Cam can pull Rivers forward. Rivers knows the system he has been here for a few years. I think that Coach Cam will help him with his confidence.
If coach Cam can improve his skill set then having a brother in the league will be the story as he tears up the SEC himself.

Well....it'd be nice if he stepped up next year. But in all honesty, I'm really expecting Jennings to take the job. He looks poised to do big things as a freshman already. It will be great to have Rivers there as a safety net and provide some vet experience, but Jennings looks to be the complete package and the prototypical Les Miles QB.
ETA: I'm talking about 2014, not 2013. Mett is the unquestioned starter unless injuries occur.

Its a new offense. AJ and Rivers have been in that system the same amount of time.

AJ has a better skill set.
Not sure why you care about this story. He is not his brother. He is not close to as good as Phillip (not many people in the world are). Sure, that would be a story for 10 minutes on gameday one random saturday, but it won't be that big of deal and CERTAINLY has NOTHING to do with his PT or chances to start.

no doubt, starting as a 3rd year soph with 3 springs under his belt would be ideal. The challenge for the staff is how to handle Jennings this year. If you really want competition for the position next year then Jennings needs to get some playing time this year. If you're positive that Rivers is the guy then you have to redshirt Jennings, otherwise he is only one class behind Rivers. It will be interesting watching it unfold....who knows, Rettig could jump up as well.

he is the Key to LSU being able to recruit any QB, elite or not, in the nation...
I'd think Les is the key there

i think there is a potential to handle Jennings and Rivers like the Flynn and Perrilloux scenario

All reports on Jennings are positive to this point, but I do think we need to pump the breaks a bit on AJ. At one time, people were wondering if Mett would be one and done. LSU fans have been desperate for a QB saviour post Perrilloux.
AJ is very young which worries me at the QB position. I would hate for him to be thrown into a Jarrett Lee type situation where expectations are too high, too early.

I thought Chris Garrett was going to be a stud after his first spring game...

Fortunately Crowton is gone...

its the same offense bro trust me. there are some small changes that will make big differences but i dont think that we will see a completely different set of plays from what we've been seeing. My guess is that the game plan will change to a situation specific plan.

I think Mett suffered more from poor offensive coaching than anything.
He will be a new QB this year IMO, and has the skill set and size to be a VERY good QB.
Every report on AJ starting from HS were glowing. He is the most accurate QB we've had in a while, mobile, and has great pocket presence/vision downfield.
I agree, we don't know what will happen with him, but I am more optimistic about him than any QB we've had in years. The vibe from the other players is that AJ is straight killing it as well (judging by instagram and twitter posts). They rave about him.
If Rivers is better, great. If AJ is better, great.
If not for anything else, a message board is meant for optimistic theoreticals.

We'll see, but Mett was moaning as he mentioned how hard it is to learn a new offense and Les has said he gave Cam full command of the offense. New terminology, new plays, etc.

one thing for sure, it appears we have a pretty strong succession plan in place for years to come, which is something we couldn't say a few years ago. If Cam can put an offense on the field that can win games this year then we'll land the big offensive fish in this recruiting class and the sky will be the limit.

I feel sorry for Hayden Rettig.

I like Mett, but moaning is something he's pretty good at.

Eh hell get his shot. Hell redshirt and have the chance to start in probably three years. He's pretty damn raw although he has some skills.
