it's my opinion that overdoing it, or doing it too early kind of dilutes the tribute, look at bama, they put up a statue of Saban after 1 nc, of course they've also fabricated about half of those they they claim to have won

Maybe the graduating thing is the entire hold up on it.

Wait.

You mean Pete Maravich isn't in the Hall of Fame??? WTF???

quote:

LSU Athletics Hall of Fame Members

Eligibility for the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame
To be eligible for the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame in the Athlete category, the individual must have been granted an earned baccalaureate, professional or graduate degree by LSU or by some other regionally accredited institution of higher learning, have earned one or more letters in a varsity sport at LSU, have gained national distinction through superlative performance as an athlete, and have established a personal reputation for character and citizenship which reflects favorably on the University.

Former LSU athletes are eligible for nomination only after three years or more have elapsed since the conferring of his or her degree.

Men's Basketball
YEAR ELECTED NAME
1937 Malcolm "Sparky" Wade
1952 Joe Dean
1954 Bob Pettit
1990 Durand "Rudy" Macklin
2000 Shaquille O'Neal
2008 Harry Rabenhorst (Head Coach)
2013 Dale Brown (Head Coach)
2013 Frank Brian
JERSEYS RETIRED:
1954 Bob Pettit
1970 Pete Maravich
2000 Shaquille O'Neal
2010 Durand "Rudy" Macklin

Well then those rules need to change, or LSU needs to award him an honorary degree.

One way or another, Pete Maravich needs to be in the Hall of Fame. It is an embarrassment that he is not there already.

they seem to be pretty firm on them, a lot of people lobbied for Crowe Peele, maybe one of the most famous boxers and they wouldn't budge, broke his heart from what I understand

Long overdue. Should have been done when they added his name to the Assembly Center.

The holdup with honoring Shaq was due to him getting that diploma

Obviously Pistol Pete never got his degree from LSU but you would think they would make an exception due to circumstances

Shaq couldn't hold Pete's jock when it comes to basketball skills and athleticism, two totally different types of players, and I love Shaq

Well clearly they are completely different players but that shouldn't stop anyone from arguing who is better

I can care less about politics or him! I was simply stating that he brought it up last year. And I think it was a good question by him as a person.

just a message board and my opinion but anyway you'd want to theorize about it I can't see Shaq being able to take the pistol in any conceivable form of basketball competition, i.e., one on one, horse, three point, dribble skills, certainly not free throw comp. but both are certainly two all time LSU greats

Clearly the minority think it's a stupid idea! People go to TJ Ribs just to see his shoes! It WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA! How many would come to the campus to see his statue!?

...and you lost me.

No one is going to drive over to the PMAC/Tiger Stadium just to see a statue.
