I think it's funny the way you're playing toy soldiers with Valentine and Garrett, two guys whose abilities are a mystery to you.

Maybe Valentine will be a superstar, but Garrett sat the bench last year. I'd expect our four top LBs to be Duke, Beckwith, Debo and Louis. Those will be the guys on the field the most. If you need two inside guys, then Louis will be one of them. The other two are just too skinny.

Garrett will probably take a while longer before he's ready. That's such a read-and-react position that it seems to take players a couple of seasons before they're ready. That was true of Minter and Beckwith; I see no reason to think Garrett is a faster learner.

Wow didn't realize we had that much talent.
Don't have quality depth at DE AT ALL
I'm optimistic about this. Bower and Clark both looked ready by the end of last year. Teuhema and Neal were impressive in the little action they got. Hell, they moved that squirt Neal to DT when QT was injured! He must be strong as hell, and he's definitely quick.

Will not be shocked to see better production out of Bower and Teuhema thru their careers here than the ones they are replacing. B&T really flashed this year when on the field. I expect these guys to be starters at DE coming out of fall camp. T is my pick for blowup player on 2015 D.

DT has to improve just based on numbers alone. Good experience coming back and outstanding fresh faces getting added to the mix. Front 7 should make a leap I predict especially in TFL and sacks.

Here is my take on the starters and the listing of the whole Defensive Line broken down for DE and DT.

Starters:
DT- T. Valentine
DT- Q. Thomas & D. Godchaux rotating 50/50 snaps
DE- T. Bower (he needs to be 260 pounds retaining speed
DE- D. Clark (he needs to bulk up to 250 for his SO year and up to 260 Jr/Sr year)

Defensive Tackles:
1. T. Valentine- 6' 3" 330 FR
2. Q. Thomas- 6'4" 303 SR
3. D. Godchaux- 6' 4" 298 SO
4. C. Lacouture- 6' 5" 300 JR
5. T. LMAO- 6' 1" 315 RSFR
6. M. Bain- 6' 4" 300 SO
7. G. Gilmore- 6' 5" 305 SO
M. Johnson- 6' 1" 307 SR (News today that he is Transferring)
8. Recruit DT for 2015 Class
9. Recruit DT for 2015 Class
10. Recruit DT for 2015 Class (not just a body- only if he is good and class 2016 should be OK)

The coaches should put Herron and Neal back at DE as that is their natural positions and where they can play effectively. When you look at the numbers we have 7 players not counting Herron and Neal to where we have depth now and can add 2-3 recruits this year and have 10 DT's for 2015 season.

I look for Valentine to be a stud and shut down the middle and get to the QB for a 10 sack season. Also T. LMAO will be good in the interior as well as Godchaux improving on his awesome Freshman year. Lacouture will back up Valentine and rotate in on different DL set-ups as we will see different 4-3 and 3-4 sets to confuse the offense and get some pressure on opposing QB's. It is time Bain and Gilmore provide good depth with Bain pushing the starters toward the end of the year.

Defensive Ends:
1. T. Bower- 6' 5" 250 JR
2. D. Clark- 6' 3" 245 SO
3. S. Teuhema- 6' 4" 240 SO
4. L. Neal- 6' 2" 245 JR (Moved to DE where belongs, or even at outside LB in 3-4 defense)
5. F. Herron- 6' 5" 290 SO (Moved back to DE where better suited for either 4-3 or 3-4)
6. MJ Patterson- 6' 4" 240 SO
7. I. Washington- 6' 4" 240 RSFR (Edna Karr- Verbal commitment for 2015 Class)
8. Recruit for 2015 Class (Hope CC Jefferson)
9. Recruit for 2015 Class (Hope Nigerian but probably Arden Key- great visit this weekend)

We were very thin there until I added Herron and Neal which gives us 5 good players at that position (my numbers 1-5 on my depth chart above). Adding 3 recruits is a must and I think we land Arden Key who is having a great visit this weekend and probably CC Jefferson. The Nigerian would be a steal from Auburn and he should be a monster in 2 years.

Having a more aggressive DL with our good LB, that actually pressure the QB and generate sacks, and confusion in the disrupted pocket will make our great DB shine even more. They will get more picks and make some great hits on badly thrown balls.

Good work.

At this point I think Davon is only sure starter. He had a good year as a trueFr. If Valentine lives up to the Rant's expectation he will be starting.

Clark is a defensive end. Speed rusher and weighs in ~250. He is too light for the DT position.

Don't see all the love for Lacouture, I watch him on every play, no big sacks or anything, 3 star out of Nebraska, why does everyone pencil him in.

If Valentine learns his gazintas he will start with Godchaux. V has by all reports been unblockable.

Because he beat out every swinging dick on the dline.

Lacouture is not the Penetrating type, like Dorsey and Nevis. He's more of a two gap player like Brockers was. Mike Brokers controled the man in front of him and plugged the line for three feet in either direction. Lacouture is not THAT good, but he's that type. Godchaux is more of a penetrator; that gets more fan attention.

What gets me so excited is that we haven't seen Valentine or Trey El yet, so we know they're unblockable. The only problem is, the backups won't ever get meaningful snaps because every drive will be 3 and out, but it will be cool holding teams to -100 yards every game. Having unblockable DT's is an awesome luxury that no else has and we get them for two more years! Back to back baby!!!!

Look, maybe it's believable that Valentine is "unblockable", maybe, but I doubt it. It's absurd to think both of them are. Last year Heron was unblockable. Some people never learn. It's like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown.
