How can you even compare the two scenarios?
The one you linked is a regular season game and the cardinals were winning 9-0.
Some of our fans are so delusional.

There's nothing wrong with giving the opposing team a golf clap in the appropriate situation.
you don't cheer when we our season was just eliminated or we are losing a tough tournament game in the late innings. Pretty simple common sense IMO.

It was the NLCS game 6. But you're right, that example they were winning handily. But I'm telling you that baseball fans typically acknowledge strong play by the opponents. It's not limited to Baton Rouge or Kansas City. And it's going to happen again the next time, so you should just prepare yourself.

777 said it best, as a player. That's the perspective that I take when considering all of this. He said he liked the idea of our stadium being a hornet's nest for the opponent. That's what I believe, too. I also believe that these standing ovations/victory laps for the opponent are ridiculous. 90% of those participating are congratulating themselves for being the "best fans evar" much more than they're congratulating the other team. Sheep.

I agree completely that victory laps for opponents are absurd. Ovations are a completely different deal

Do you think they would cheer for a gutsy outing by an opposing pitcher while losing in the 7th inning of a playoff game?
This is not pro ball. This is young guys playing for a school and not a paycheck. It's a tournament LSU is hosting and not a SEC or weekend series. It's a showcase event for LSU baseball both on and off the field. Showing some class or appreciation toward the efforts of other teams sent here by the NCAA is the right thing to do.
Any idea that what the fans at the game did was somehow wrong in a tournament setting, is retard like thinking.

This just in.....
LSU is on a 10 game win streak.
LSU is the #8 national seed.
LSU is 1-0, and is starting Aaron Nola tonight.
It doesn't get any better than right now for LSU fans.
Chill out everyone and enjoy it while it's here.

Would they have cheered an Alabama pitcher that performed exactly the same?

Let me see if I've got this straight. Since I stood up and clapped for the slu pitcher I am....
1. Making Alex Box a less intimidating venue.
2. Making things easier for the slu reliever because he will feel less pressure since I'm clapping for his teammate rather than pitching in a "hornets nest."
3. Not really caring about the gutsy performance of a college athlete pitching in the most important game of his career and giving it his all, but rather going against all instincts to claim a mythical "greatest fans of all time" moniker that doesn't really exist.
Hey dumbfricks. Me standing up cheering an opposing pitcher walking off the field has ZERO IMPACT ON THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME WHATSOEVER!!!
You want to bitch and moan about me clapping, then buy a ticket and sit the f*** down when the opposing pitcher heads to the dugout. But don't dare tell me that I'm doing it for a self serving purpose.
As for the victory lap from SB, the season was already over and the better team had won. I wanted to give congrats to a team heading to the CWS. They earned it. By congratulating them I did not end LSU's season....IT WAS ALREADY OVER!! There was zero irreparable damage done by me saying good job to those kids.
If you do have a problem with any of this then you suck as a person. You're probably the a-hole parent at the little league park teaching their kids that winning is the only thing that defines you in life.

Nice UTEP logo, though. Appropriate.

Yeah, that post got out of hand. The outrage over clapping though seemed to warrant it.

I have no problem with clapping for a good performance. I just think the standing ovation is a little over the top. Especially when the home team is trailing.

did the SELU fans cheer for LSU after they won?

way to shite on your team when they were down, doesn't matter how you see it, those boys in that dugout just lost their season and watched "the Faithful following" high five their opponents
.....standing ovations are whatever, good perfomance, ok, but HIGH frickING FIVING the other team, Jesus Christ, come on, be a little more sensitive to your supposed team and the fact that they just lost a really tough one
