Sitting: okay for the handicapables and really old people. Solution? Put the geriatric set in one small corner of the stadium. Put the OO down in front of that section so that god forbid no old person's blue hair obstructs his view.
Any young/able-bodied fan that doesn't stand up on kick off, third downs, breakthrough runs, and any other exciting moment needs to get out of TS and give his/her ticket to someone who cares.
FWIW, I'm female, and I agree with the poster who said the OP needs to turn in his man card. Quit being a d-bag and stand up and holler when needed.
Mr. 1999 & went to a game at Florida State for his alma mater a couple of years ago. The entire FSU section that we were sitting in sat the whole time-- except for the 3 short, runty guys standing in front of us. They stood, so we had to stand, too. We apologized to the folks behind us, but we weren't going to miss the game. What these horses' asses didn't know was that we were primarily LSU fans. What that meant was that we could stand for hours-- and yell directly into someone's ear canal at full volume for as long as it took. They gave up after 1 1/2 quarters.

Saw a trooper put a guy down who was standing too much. What he told the guy made sense. "Stand when everyone else stands, and when the play is over sit the hell down!"

OK, so this guy in front of me has to stand up everytime the balls in the air or someone breaks
It's guys like this that make me wish they'd pull all the seats out of the stadium!!! Half of the damn stadium acts like that at a damn opera. the only time you should sit is at halftime.... unless of course the golden girls are out... then we should all stand at attention!

If I am paying hundreds for a ticket, I will enjoy the game as I please. You can sit in front of a television and get the same effect as being at the game.
Yeah, like no one else around you paid for their tickets. Guess what. You can stand in front your television, and scream and be as obnoxious as you want, and no one will bother you to sit down.

I'm flying from the other side of the world to get into Tebow's ear and I'm bringing three guys 6-4 and taller to stand and holler at Tebow behind the Florida bench. No sitting involved. October 10, 2009, will be raucous. The timid should stay home. Hide the women and children. The faint of heart need not come. Thousands of dollars already paid for chairs I will not need. The intent is to help the defense and make Florida audibles ... well, IMPOSSIBLE!!!! The vocal chords are rested. The face paint has been purchased. We're bringing our A game. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

Your logic is impeccable. Everyone in the stadium has paid for tickets, including the student section. Can you not sit in front of your own television without fear of some heathen barbarian standing in enthusiasm? "You can [sit] in front your television, and no one will bother you to [stand up]." Just using your logic.
You're at a college football game. If you're sitting on your arse during a big play, you should probably be somewhere else.

I don't have a problem with standing during a big play. I'm not at the extreme end where I think there should be no standing. Hey, if you get excited, stand up and cheer, then sit down after. I used this absurd notion of staying home to illustrate the absurdity of the other guys line of thinking. Just because this guy pays hundreds to be at the game does not give him the right to trample all over the rights of others around him. They also paid hundreds to be there. This mindset that just because you paid a lot for your tickets entitles you to do what you want, is the mentality that gets people escorted out of Tiger Stadium by the police.
I can't help it if you can't grasp this logic, or choose not to. That's your problem.

sorry to interupt all of you from being internet badasses, but what he's talking about pisses me off too. I have no problem standing for the whole game or sitting for the whole game, but having somebody in front of you who will sit then jump up in the middle of every play, whether its a big play or not, will piss anybody off. people like that need to just pick what they want to do. stand or sit.
it's football. go to the opera

I guess you can't please everyone

if you want to stand, you can stand. it's a football game, not a play. i get excited when we run plays, so I stand. i hope to god somebody has the balls to tell me to sit down when i stand up in excitement.
fwiw, if it bothers you, and the person in front of you is the only one standing, ask if he doesn't mind trading seats for the game so your lazy arse doesn't have to stand

aside from that, there is no legit reason for him to make you sit. and i would try it, except for everyone around me stands most of the time - no whiny pseudo fans in my section from what i've seen.

Actually there is, check the 2009 LSU Fan Football Fan Guide, Page 19.
"STANDING DURING GAMES
Policy:
LSU encourages fans to be courteous to other fans in choosing to stand during games. Spontaneous reaction to plays or significant events is expected and encouraged. Continuous standing during game action when other fans are sitting is discouraged and will be addressed by game marshals [and law enforcement] if complaints from other fans are reasonable and continuous."
The trooper probably won't slap you around, but he will definitely escort you out of the stadium if you tell him to kiss your arse.

I had first row on the 50 yardline once and could not see over the opposing teams heads on the sideline. So I kindly recited the tiger stadium rules on continuous standing and they kindly and promptly sat indian style to give me a better view. This is why these rules are in place... I go to the game expecting a living room environment to quietly enjoy my team...

by that definition, what the original poster complained about would be acceptable. also says "when other fans are sitting." so, if someone around you is standing, i think you'd be okay. i've never seen a marshal or trooper make an entire section sit.
fwiw, if someone behind me was elderly or disabled, i'd have no problem sitting.
Posted on 9/24/09 at 9:31 am to lsutigerbrian
I agree, no one is gonna follow the policy, but when lsujro is telling the state trooper to kiss his arse, and he has no legit reason for making him sit down, and then is "gently" extricated from his seat and escorted out, the trooper will cite this policy to him.
