ESPN said it is only fair to have a 3rd match to settle this.

No doubt

And I said way before...when the rematch was all but decided before the Iron bowl...that ESPN was lobbying for bama and the rematch. Then i said how the BCS was manipulated and ESPN helped bama by floating the "the best loss argument".

Now i say....watch and see if ESPN doesn't try a Crimson Tide Network in the next year...just like the Longhorns. That will explain why they pushed so hard for the rematch. Classic Negotiating..."Look what we can do for you".

Sounds crazy? We shall see

I was just thinking that Bama received credit for their loss against us. We get the shaft in our loss to them? More evidence of a sham.

the way we lost is cause for concern but i understand one of the reasons if did happen.

espn was promoting bama. espn was promoting the bcs.

watch alabama go independant.

You nailed it. Yes, Saban out-coached Miles. Yes, they were better prepared. But why? Becuase we had already won the "Game of the Century" on 11/5, at their house. And no, they didn't beat themselves. We had more points, becuase when it got down to gut-check time (OT) the gumps went backwards, while LSU only had to make a short FG after an apparent TD. It's human nature that Miles thought we'd not change the plan from 11/5, but make it better. He failed. It had everything to do with winnning the first time around. I really believe LSU would have been better served for the BCS by losing a close game at DBS on 11/5 and going into the BCS with one loss and hearing all the crap the gumps had to endure. We would have been "hungry". Bama was; we were not.

the rub is, we are not guaranteed a second chance. They were. Now they have more nc's then any other school. I cannot go on any other board on this site. THe mere presence of bama fans makes me sick and hard to ignor.

This is eerily familiar to 1959. Tyrans punt return vs Arkansas albeit not Oct 31, but parallels to Cannons run. Just my two cents

I agree! 9-6 and 7-3....21-0 x 2 in the rematch...

I would equate the Reid INT to the Cannon run in the analogy.

By the way, Tennessee never recovered from that 2001 SECCG. Many credit that game with the beginning of the end of the Vols.

ESPN pushed so hard for Bama to get a rematch...it was kinda nice to hear that this BCS title game got the lowest ratings EVER for a title game! Not sure how big of hit ESPN took, but I do know ratings = $$. Can't imagine ESPN brass or advertisers are that happy with those ratings!

it is speculated that a college 4 team playoff would get generate about 3 times the money. So espn could be pushing that closer to reality. I think they could also be pushing for a bama network.

enough to give Alabama the undisputed national title, over and against an LSU squad that merely defeated the Cotton (Arkansas), Rose (Oregon), Orange (West Virginia), and….uhhhhh… the BCS National Championship Game (Alabama) winners.

That just blows my mind. It is so amazing, yet so tainted.

Y'all are talking out your asses on this can't-win-twice thing. In 1999, Alabama went into Florida's house and barely beat Florida in OT. That set up a rematch in the SECCG, where Florida should've had all the motivation to get revenge and show that it was the better team, per your theory.

What happened? Bama waxed that arse again, this time 34-7, leaving no doubt. Like LSU should've done, and knew it had to do, if it wanted to be the champs. Leave. No. Doubt.

Right now if it was announced that Bama had to play LSU to prove their title, LSU would go gang busters on Bama's arse.

The system is so flawed... Bama had NO BUSINESS getting into the National Championship Game. They lost to LSU at home, and not only didn't win their Conference, they didn't win their division. Rules need to be changed. This kind of system makes a lot of the big games during the season meaningless. The LSU victory in Nov. was meaningless. The SEC Championship game this season was meaningless, because the system doesn't have sensible rules in place. Bama DID NOT DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE!!!... I know deep in my heart, If Bama would have beaten us 9-6 in Nov. LSU wouldn't have gotten the rematch!!!! It's all a joke!!! Make proper rule changes, or go to a full playoff system!

Alabama was given a second chance to avenge the loss to their biggest rival in a national championship game where they were told they didn't belong? Who the frick wouldn't want that chance? the only 2 times it has happened florida vs florida state and ole miss vs lsu

Bama had to beat UF twice in 1999 to win the SEC, and they did. Not sure what you mean that there have only been two rematch games?

If you mean there have only been two rematch games between rivals, I would say that UA v UF is as much a rivalry as UA v LSU.
