Because I’m not a degenerate gambler. I don’t gamble at all! That’s how Las Vegas became Las Vegas. Suckers! Is that honestly where the meaning “throwing off” came from? I’ve followed baseball since the late 80’s. Mostly MLB until the early 2000’s and I’ve NEVER heard that term until this week.

If you don't pitch the guy that would normally pitch that day then whoever actually does pitch would have to THROW. And they would be throwing OFF schedule since they usually don't pitch that day. Hence, THROW OFF. Some ppl try entirely too hard to be intelligent and think their way right over the correct answer.

It’s also called in the MLB “pitching on short rest”. No one has EVER exclaimed “pitching off” until this board.

There’s better terms that can be used. “Throwing off” sounds like a hillbillie way of saying we are walking everyone!

And if they aren’t pitching on short rest, they just say they reset the rotation. “Pitching off” sounds so dumb and much more, sounds negative.

The majority of people with Autism actually have an above average IQ.

What I said wasn't necessarily an insult.

“Throwing off” sounds like you’re trying to throw the game.

Throwing off only applies when the ace would also be on full rest. The Nationals world series was more of an "all hands on deck" situation

I just want to say this is going to be us all the way through Omaha as we win our 8th natty!

2019 WS the Nationals pitched their starters out of rotation and used them as closers in at least two games. NOT ONCE did I ever hear “throwing off”!

I guess that means it’s not a thing if the 2019 Nationals didn’t use it.

I hope we are the 2019 Nationals. Their entire pitching staff dominated and they got timely hits! Kinda like our 2023 squad! Let’s hope it happens again!
