MIT has a football team.

So does the U of Chicago.

Actually, if you look it up, not only is LSU one of the few schools in the nation who's athletic program is completely self-sufficient but LSU's football program actually funds ALL of the other athletic programs at LSU in addition to providing MILLIONS to the university as a whole........which certainly includes helping to pay that snobby prick's paycheck.

Nope, possibly the most conservative man on the planet......but you just go ahead with your juvenile assumptions. Also, go ahead and be so dense as to not see that these arguments are not mutually exclusive.

In the grand scheme of things if the money, talent and energy spent on LSU football and its surrounding events were spent on social ills, I dramatic positive impact would be felt.

Wrong. The money spent on LSU football creates jobs and helps fund the university (both academics and other sports programs). That is, money spent on football has positive repercussions elsewhere.

You can spend all you want on social ills and you either won't fix them or find new social ills to spend money on.

I am sorry, but I cannot find agreement with your comments.

I agree with him that LSU has big problems, but the FB team has nothing to do with it. It's called politics and it is killing LSU.

The further LSU can get from politians, the better off it will be. We as fans and alums should do everything we can to kill the state legislative autority over setting tuition. LSU is 10 years behind everyone else in raising it's tuition. It will eventually cost us our top tier status which, btw, is hanging on by a thread! La is the only state in the country with this setup.

TOPS should also get killed. It is a waste of funds and does not have much to do with attracting top students. UT and TAM do not have
anything like TOPS and they are turning great students away by the thousands. Good students want quality - not cheap and low grade.

This is a liberty issue. People spend tons of money on...pets each year. With that money we could blah, blah, blah. We ought to do away with nine of the fourteen four year colleges we have in this poor state. Unlikely...

So hotdog vendors, liquor stores, and trash pickup is where Louisiana is needing economic and infrastructure help. In that case, the professor has no cause for his opinion. Carry on.

Though I don't know, I suspect that when LSU is successful on the football field and everybody is excited about the Tigers the contributions to the Alumni Association go up, thereby providing more money for these professor types to operate.

I think you mean "Social Sciences." "Liberal Arts" refers to a variety of courses which include math, science, business, medicine, etc.

DO you think this is the only industries that benefit from LSU football? You don't think that the travel industry picks up a few hotel booking and flights? Maybe a few restaurants get a few customers? Beverage distributors? Come on man! Oh and Carry on.

I know, economic stimulus is what it is all about.

BTR really does boom when the Tigers do, that is the basic business barometer. Of course BTR metro also has the second fastest declining population in the country. And has a decline in BTR city population since the glory of LSU football resurfaced, from 2000 to 2007 showing an actual decline even with the Katrina influx. Also, the number one employer within BTR is government. So if the LSU football team is such an economic driving force...how do you explain the decline in the BTR area.

Yet there has been vast expansion at other University cities that have mediocre or horrible football programs. What is your explanation?

As much as I love LSU football, and as much as I am glad to have a degree from there, it has at best an average academic reputation. You should be glad that professors are disinterested in it. The faculty are working hard on the other part of the university, typically known as the "mission."
