Capital One Arena (formerly known as Verizon Center and MCI center before that) is the home of the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards (formerly Bullets), Georgetown Hoyas, and Washington Mystics, (including an arena team, various concerts, wwe, events, etc...).
-It has been around since 1997 when it replaced the old Capital Centre in Maryland as the home of the Capitals, Wizards, and Hoyas.
-It is located in Washington, D.C.'s China town neighborhood and served as a major rebirth for the neighborhood, now one of D.C.s most coveted. It was so successful in revitalizing the nieghborhood that a similar concept was used to revitalize part of Southeast D.C. with the National's new stadium. It is much smaller than San Francisco's or New York's chinatowns and is mostly commercialized now without many authentic Chinese groceries or restaurants.
-It was previously owned by the Washington Wizards but then acquired by the Washington Capitals in 2010 so they could run it more to their benefit. Previously they reaped 0$ of revenue from concessions and often weren't given priority when events were being scheduled and were regularly considered to have the worst ice in the NHL.
-It's tenants are home to 3 champions with 1 a piece from each major tenant. The Wizards being the first champions winning in 1978, the Hoyas in 1984, and the Washington Capitals (the only while playing in this venue) this past year in 2018.
-It seats 20,356 for basketball which (i'm hoping) will be packed to the gills with purple and gold faithfull this weekend.
-It's a great place to experience a sporting event and one that I have many memories in from the time I was a small child and into adulthood. I hope to get two more great memories here this weekend and cheer the Tigers into the Final Four

I love that area. Used to frequent Clyde’s all the time. Also an amazing sushi restaurant in the basement around there but forgot the name

I had no idea Georgetown shared the Wizards arena. Georgetown should build their own.

Any recommendations around Mt Vernon Square? My office will be on New York Ave as of next month.

Capital Burger on NY & 7th... it’s Capital Grille’s burger concept. Best burger you will ever eat.
Mount Vernon is cool, close to Chinatown and U street. Tons of great things all over.
