Springfield isn't hitting at all. Thornhill plays 1B and has actually somewhat hit SEC pitching in her career but she's not a highly touted freshman so people aren't clamoring to let the new toy out of the packaging. Same goes with Sanchez and Doyle. Sanchez's OBP in SEC play is double Doyle's.

Sanchez has been having decent at bats lately...but I think she stays because her defense has greatly improved the last few weeks. She has been solid at 3rd. As for Doyle and Springfield, it is a dilemma. They are the future of the middle of your order...and the present too, for that matter. You almost have to let them hit their way out of it. It's a tough call.

I am with you, Ashlynn, in saying changes need to be made. I think when you post something about changes, it is viewed as an attack on the coaches. We all know our coaches, like us, are imperfect.
I, too, would rather see Nicky Dawson DP bat than Doyle. I wish they would DP her. Quinn is doing well at second, and they are not going to take her out, so if Nicky is going to play, it would be as DP.
As for putting Nicky in the outfield, she does not have the arm for it. The mechanics are not there, and when that is the case, it almost works out that the arm strength isnt there either.
I saw her warming up before the game when they played Georgia, and i could tell she is working on coming over the top when she throws.
What I like about Nicky is she is calm at the plate, she doesn't swing at a lot of bad pitches (Doyle's problem is pitch selection, Nicky dont have that issue). Also, i think Nicky can power slap and in time we will see it.
I wonder, how everyone feels about the fly ball that got passed Griggs....did she miss it, or was it not catchable?
Looked like it went under her glove.
I am all for moving Andrews, or putting Nicky as DP and lead off hitter.. Griggs does not belong there.
Kudos to Beth for moving things around a bit. One thing she (Beth) can say is she has been more than generous in giving struggling players a chance to pull through.
The few coaches that many might say are better than Beth, I do not like them... (Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, OKlahoma).. Glad we got Beth and i sure hope we keep her.

Fixes for the problems that are obvious...
Griggs...move her to the back of the lineup . Get her to swing away instead of trying slap. She has the swing to do it. I can't say what makes her comfortable at the plate, but standing straight up as she does is from her slapper mentality. If she wants to launch her swing from there, that's fine but she is stretching out the strike zone used against her. I think she can hit better than we have seen but she needs to drop the slapper crap.
Landry-on her way to All American.
Jaquish.... i wish she would understand that she is not batting third to get on base, but to drive in runs. Taking the first strike, and being so willing to walk, i dont think she see it. It's like she is up there aiming for a walk, but swinging if she has to. What happens is she walks and then Springfield or Doyle comes up and strikes out and its all over. Jaquish needs to be aggressive at the plate and drive in runs, not aim at just getting herself on base.
Springfield- simple... shorten the swing. all tall players seem to struggle with this, like Supak did. Springfield's swing is much, much too long. Once she gets this straightened out, it's all over. She is going to be a terror that the SEC hasnt seen in years.
Doyle- mentality, mindset, pitch selection. Those are her challenges. She has a great swing, and great power. Give her time..she might have to sit for a while, but by the time she is gone from LSU her name will be in the record books.
Quinn-..I'd be a little more willing to jump on the first pitch if it was a fastball...she is another one that often takes the first pitch and then ends up facing the pitcher's junk pitches, and horrible umpire strike calling like last night (worst umpire in college softball).
Sanchez-coming around, keep it up, its coming back .. glad she has improved on defense.
Serret- Again, for her, its the angle of her swing, she is not flat through the zone and often catches the ball at the wrong part of the swing, and on the wrong part of the bat. When she gets it solid, she hits really hard. She needs swing adjustment, not total re-do like Springfield.
Andrews-.. keep it up
Dawson--keep it up.
Waljasper...Like many say, she is a better pinch hitter than batting in the order the whole game. Pitch selection is an issue with her. I think Beth knows if Waljasper gets a solid piece of the ball, the infield aint going to handle it.
Hope Carly's knee heals soon.
Congrats on win vs Bama...looking forward to the game today.

Absolutely a great analysis. Spoke to someone at game last night. Said fly ball was a long way to go and they were shading towards right as hitter was left handed. I keep her there as a leader and has by far the best arm. But she definitely needs to go back to the way she hit as a freshman...more swinging and power slapping.
But this brings me to whatnot posted last night. After watching replay yesterday and watching game least night on Thank? I still say it's our hitting coach. Take Landry and Jaquish and Griggs out of line up and you have horrible production. They account for more than a 3rd of our hits
I am liking what I see out of Dawson and Andrews, but again very small sampling, their averages are a little deceiving, as a couple bad days and they drop like a rock....lets just hope that doesn't happen. They have see. Performed well thus far.
Again, I just don't think these kids are getting better under the hitting coach, Bailey, Savannah have hot since they got here. Griggs hot better as a freshman than she is now....whay has changed?
Comparing him to the years before he got here is crazy, they never had this much talent in recruits. It might not be the chef that makes the food food good, but the quality of ingredients

LSU Softball is easily considered a top 10 job, she is never leaving unless some type of crazy collapse happens. She LOVES LSU and BR. her parents moved down here and their family is very comfortable. We have top notch facilities and a beautiful park, she is already establishing her own legacy right now. She loves what she does and loves to represent purple and gold
