‘Tis a long season, but right now, this does not look like a team that is OKC bound.

It’s frustrating to watch our players watch strikes across the middle of the plate only to strikeout on balls. Kentucky takes advantage on mistakes and we don’t. Something needs to change or we won’t get far in post season.

Can’t believe how bad our hitting is. Really thought they we’re addressing that with the recruits they brought in.

Another thought about the hitting. Could it be that most of the players were good hitters in school and travel ball and the hitting coach for Beth thinks he can improve their ability and he unknowingly over coaches them? He could be looking to be viable as a coach and maybe change what they were successful at doing???

Few of these players were top recruits recruited by all these other top SEC and PAC 12 teams, its not like we are recruiting people who no one wants or weren't successful at all levels they played

But there seems to be a greater problem, some players look worse with each at bat, statistically some continue to drop after each year which should not happen.

But the reality essentially everyone looks unsure of themselves at the plate

IMO there is a major pitch recognition problem at LSU at the moment. Not all of this is on Dobson some of this does fall on the players too but mechanically speaking there are a lot of flaws in each of our hitters. That he should or needs to make major adjustments, what we are doing is not working for these players at the moment.

Personally if no one wants to hit, throw in Sunseri, Thornhill, goff and see if they do anything different, can't be any worse then what we see at the moment. Still extremely early in SEC play but its unreasonable to expect our pitchers to shut everyone out and to win 1-0 every time

I have not seen every player on this team prior to LSU but the few I have seen look very different compared to now. I watched Doyle for a couple years prior to LSU and now her swing is a bit different compared to before. Springfield has always looked like this in travel ball and hs (the swing). Serrett is a little bit different now as well.

I just hope Springfield is not hurt too bad, yes I know she has been struggling mightily so far at the plate but we still need her in the lineup for power reasons.

Same, maybe she tweaked it when she threw it and its really minor.

This is apparent to anyone. We get stuck on a certain players and that's it. We have played some REALLY bad players the last few years while wasting 100's of at bats on them.

Get your OBP and OPS players in the line up. I heard all fall how great Sunseri looked and shes back from an injury yet zero at bats. Goff is a hitter and also a freshman, what does it hurt to try something new? We have four juniors and a senior in the line up. This is not a young team. Half of the starters are hitting below .250.

Thank GOD we have two AA pitchers or this would already be much uglier. They work their tail off and if they don't throw a gem we almost can't win in many instances. Imagine this offensive mentality when this pitching is gone.

Let's salvage a win tomorrow.

I would like to see Sunseri as well she just needs the experience but she did look excellent all fall at the plate. She was extremely successful on the travel ball level with her bat and she has some pop in it.

I am sure Dobson works his arse off,I've met the man many times and I know he is a hard worker

I guess people are just saying what we are and have done isn't working and it all continues to look the same

I hope we can find something to work soon

The man has forgotten more about softball than I’ll ever know and not questioning his work ethic, but it’s a weakness of the team and that’s nothing new. I love my Tigers, but this is not a top 10 team with our current struggles at the plate.

+1

Statistically we haven't been at this point since 2012 when Torina first took over. The offense now is a little better than that team but still.

100%, I mean what can it hurt. And Goff, too.

Andrews LF
Griggs CF
Doyle 3B
========= After this point it is a guess we have had such little production.
Sunseri DP
Serrett SS
Springfield 1B
Goff 2B
Schlat C (we simply have no options behind the plate)
Antoine RF

But I'd still like to see Claire. She has a top 5 OBP on the team at this point.

Antoine has showed some promise this weekend, just needs to continue to pick up experience. I thought she was screwed in her second at bat with the ump calling really low and outside strike calls

But this team desperately needs more power, we need extra base hits. I would like to see some small ball but if the lead off can't find a way on that kinda a problem

Agreed. HR hitters aren’t a necessity unless you can’t manufacture runs and right now, we’re doing neither.

I like the idea of getting the freshman in but don’t forget CC. She is the only true catcher and frames pitchs but than all. Torina shows no trust or confidence in some girls like she does with others. She so desperately want Schlattman and Schullte to succeed but forgets CC and Goff. I am sure they could to the job if Torina showed them the confidence. They could not do worse and CC would have pulled in at least half dozen stikeours today. Look at her ratio strikeouts to innings catching Wally or Hoover percentage is higher. Sunzeri too need to be shown the confidence that’s why Smith left.

Schlattman actually isn't a bad player she has been successful while at Miami (Ohio) and has had success vs major schools before at the Divison 1 level. Schlattman has hit better vs SEC competition than she has vs the weaker nonconference schedule

She has been much better as of late

As for Schulte she is really really struggling offensively. Just not much consistency at all but to be honest neither is anyone else.

CC has major work to do offensively at the moment. She has really had some major difficulties in scrimmages and in the fall. We could trot her out now but there are people I would rather see than her. goff is one of them. Kara is actually not a bad player at all, has a nice compact swing from the left side

Sunseri just came back from a minor injury, but I agree she needs to be use offensively. She was one of the more impressive hitters all fall and practice this year.

Smith? Smith left because she wanted more time in the circle, from what it looks like down in Minnesota it hasn't been a happy ending for her.

Good post Ashlynn..

There are flaws in batting mechanics that are going to make success very sporadic. Occasional hits, followed by strikeouts and pop-ups.

Bad mechanics can only go so far before being revealed in statistics.

The problem with leaving those who get a hit once in a while , hoping they will pull out of the slump is that they will keep on getting those once-in-a-while hits and never be pulled out the game.

With the exception of the 1,2, and 3 hitters, each player has their flaws that show up at the plate.

Thornhill (and Griggs too) overstretches on her pre-load as she steps forward. No need for it. Hit the ball squarely and not worry about adding a little power until consistent contact is being made. Thornhill is probably one of the most natural ballplayers on the team.

Another issue is the path the bat takes, for many of them, and the way they finish their swing keeps the bat from flattening in the zone long enough to make good contact. Check our Griggs' swing, how the bat lays flat and gives her a better chance of making contact Her strikeouts are often due to umpires calling strikes six inches outside the corner of the plate. She has moved closer to the plate now. Good for her.

We are going under the ball when swinging and a lot of that has to do with mechanics.
