This is a considerably more talented team than Sabans first year
I agree, but Saban did inherited some good players.
But, the SEC as a whole is significantly better now than when Saban came to LSU

We absolutely are and should start the season competing for a championship. Now I don't know if any rational supporter of LSU should expect it this particular season, but you still set that as your goal if no matter if you're Kentucky or Kansas or any other team.

but it’s totally unreasonable for any fan to expect that in the 1st year.
So you turn on the TV or go to LSU games with no expectation of anything good happening and certainly not winning because we have "new" coach with only 30 years experience. Regrettably, we also have some world-class athletes who can't possibly succeed because LSU only had 39 scholarship players in the bowl game last year. Got it. No need to waste any time watching this year since it's not reasonable to think they'll be successful at all. I'll bet you are one miserable SOB to watch a game with - probably are even anti-Neck.

You have to be one of the dumbest people on this board. I don’t think you understand what the word expect means.
There is a difference between wanting something to happen and expecting it to happen. I want LSU to be 15-0 every year. I don't expect that to happen every year. I guess in your mind that makes me a bad fan.

the only time i know of that a head coach came in and won a championship was that Larry guy who came into Miami after their championship coach left for another job but left the cupboard full of championship players.
Actually, the guy Coker replaced, Butch Davis, did not win a Natty at Miami. He probably should have but the BCS formula favored 1 loss Florida State over 1 loss Miami despite the fact that FSU's 1 loss was to Miami.
Had Miami played Oklahoma that year, I am fully convinced that Miami has one more NC and Bob Stoops has 0 instead of one.

i just don't get why you can['t enjoy the season knowing we will have a good football team that we are proud of this year and know that we are progressing towards playing for championships real soon.
You can do all that and still let your enthusiasm carry you away preseason. Just as long as you recognize it is not likely to happen, why not dream a little. This "you're not a real fan unless you agree with me" crap is just that.
But I also see guys on here who seem totally negative and more invested in being right or "their guy" being the only reasonable choice, or even in a coach who is no longer here (take your pick which one) that I wonder what they are really fans of other than themselves. Those are the guys whose fandom I tend to question.

Your logic has more holes in it than the average screen door.
When I buy a PowerBall ticket, I hope I win; but I don't reasonably expect that I will given that the odds are about 1 in 300 million.

Why don't you go ask Brian Kelly or any player you choose what they "expect"? You'll find out pretty quick that your "expector" is off the tracks. I don't "expect" them to lose a game - ever. Will they? Of course they will. But it'll be when THAT game is over that I'll concede it...not before the season has even fricking started.

My expectations as a fan of LSU football are no different than any player or coach. So, I'm not sure what "holes" you are talking about.

Look at the length of your rant. The erratic grammar and punctuation. The anger and venom. Bud, you are not going to make it to game one at this rate.
CALM DOWN.
CALM DOWN.

quote:Aint no way you should consider 7-5 acceptable with our talent. Even with the nonsense that happened the past 2 years, that was completely ridiculously unacceptable. We aren't Texas. We send legit players to the NFL in droves even when we suck. When we suck, most of the time it's because of poor coaching. TAMU and Bama are the only programs on our schedule with talent even close to what we have. LSU was awful with a deadman coach, and depleted team, yet damn near beat Arkansas and actually beat TAMU. LSU with competent coaching last year would have likely been 8-4.
That’s an unreasonable expectation after a complete rebuild and questions at o-line and quarterback. A 7-5 season should be acceptable for any LSU fan this year. 8-4 is a very good year. 9-3 and fans should be ecstatic.
quote:7-5 is the floor. If we only go 7-5 qnd we are healthy for the most part, it's going to be disappointing. If we go 8-4 we did what was expected of LSU even reeling from a coaching change. If we go 9-3, we are right where some of us believe LSU should be at this point. Anything higher than that and BK and the staff are miracle workers.
Saying 8-4 is the floor is pretty ridiculous with so many toss up games this season.
