They just showed the replay all the way through and his left foot never made it to the bag at all. It didn’t impact the play but that’s how they were able to confirm it.

this postseason has forced me to read the exact verbiage of the rule book more than any other.
so here we go:
Force-Play-Slide Rule
so since the SS wasn't in line with Millazo and there wasn't any contact, there was no safety issue
bases in NCAA baseball are only 15" wide.
it is damn near impossible for the entire body of an adult male to fit inside a 15" path without squeezing it in.
and the diagram
so this becomes a case of the most "well, technically" interpretation of a rule possible and goes completely against the intent of the rule as it was written.
so here we go:
Force-Play-Slide Rule

SECTION 4? The intent of the force-play-slide rule is to ensure the safety of all players? This is a safety and an interference rule?

quote:
On any force play, the runner, in the vicinity of the base, must slide on the ground before the base and in a direct line between the two bases? It is permissible for the slider’s momentum to carry them through the base in the baseline extended (see diagram)?
“Directly into a base” means the runner’s entire body (feet, legs, trunk and arms) must stay in a straight line between the bases?
