According to LSU rules, once you test positive for the first time, you are immediately retested. Doesn't exactly give you much time to get it out your system.
Not saying it makes it any less stupid to test positive twice, but that makes it a bit more difficult.

Its not so much about the moral issure of smoking weed, I used to smoke like a chimney, I just have too much to lose now with a job and supporting a lifestyle for my family.... but these young men represent(nationally), LSU and the state of La. While they may not fit the definition of "thugs", it certainly does not give the best representation of our state or our Universtiy. Not too mention set much of an example for the kids that look up to them, (like my 12 yr old son). Like it or not, some of these players(TM7) enjoy almost celebrity status, and with that comes responsibility.... I believe they will all come back better for the experience and learn a couple things while we continue our path to the NC!! We can all agree on that...

Well said.
Its a rule they are very aware of. They broke it Twice (alegedly). Now they have let down their team and their fans. I hope they have learned their leason and return to the field soon.

Your son is an idiot for using college football players as moral standards.

I think we can all agree that most of the time these players are held to a higher standard. They know that coming in. They know thAt when they put the uniform on they are representing the university, our culture, and basically serve as ambassadors for the state.
They should certainly know it after they were caught the first time.
I'm not perfect; far from it. But I don't willingly make the same decision (not mistake) twice, when I know it is going to be detrimental to my family. That's just selfish.
Like it or not, these kids, and I like how they are always reduced to being kids by apologists when they do something wrong, are our front porch to the rest of the nation. Now, they are also on the front page of every news and entertainment website it seems.
I'm not going to debate what should be legal and what shouldn't be. That's irrelevant for thus discussion. They know the rule, and they broke it...twice, alledgedly.
Yes, for the people beating their wives and partaking of other illegal activities without the scrutiny of a fanbase, trying to completely live vicariously through what a team does and tearing these players down is hypocritical. But that doesn't mean these players should just be give a pass because older folks just don't understand. I'm in my mid-thirties and I don't understand how you let the team down like this. Sorry if that makes me old. I also have the responsibility to teach my child right from wrong.
So, in trying to explain to a child under the age of ten why three of our team's best and beloved players are on the field this week, do I just say it's older people's fault because they expect "kids" to follow the rules, or do I tell him even the people we sometimes look up to in life don't always do what they are supposed to?
As I said, I am far from perfect, but the pass some of you give to these "kids" floors me sometimes.
As a 54 year old father of 2 college age girls and one that bleeds purple and gold,

Thanks for your input Sir Charles, but nowhere in the statement that you quoted do you find the word "moral". Kids admire athletes, and there's not much you're going to do to change that. But go ahead and pretend that getting suspended for failing a drug test is "acceptable behavior" from the guys that are representing our University and state. I'm sure you'll be a great role model yourself one day.

You should inform said child that looking up to sports stars for moral guidelines is retarded. They were recruited to play football at LSU, not to make sure your kid can see them in an anti-drinking PSA 5 years from now. Hell, if they were scrubs sitting on the bench, your kid wouldn't give two shits about them. Their personality has nothing to do with it, its the fact they can play a game with effectiveness. There is literally no moral ground to stand on why they should be looked up to.

So, we should constantly berate and try to change people's natural tendencies/personalities so we can feel like they'll be better for children? You forget what football is, its men running into eachother at full speed. People that play it, even at the highest levels, will have to have the mentality it takes to physically dominate another human being. That being said, these players are given scholarships because they are really good at playing a game, not because they are some sort of role model. Like I said before, chirren wouldn't like them if they were some scrub on the bench, so being better than their peers means they are supposed to care what your kid thinks?

I didn't say my son looks up to these kids as a moral compass. I respect what they do as athletes, and to think that kids aren't going to do likewise is simply not reality. I don't want our players to preach to my son, but I do want them to represent our university in the best possible light. Why is that wrong?
