New rookie wage scale. Less premium on being a high draft pick, more premium on simply being drafted with a chance to make a roster spot.

good post, plus many come from struggling homes that need money

Agents tell everyone in every family's player's family that they'll go first round.

many players want to leave knowing they won't be 1st or 2nd round picks and coming back would allow you to improve your stock and have a chance to win the NC?

Running Backs have X amount of carries in them. Whether you are picked in the 3rd or 5th, you may as well get paid as soon as you can. That explains 2 of them. Reid and Mingo are pretty obvious as well. That leaves us with Simon (dumbass), Wing (dumbass), Faulk (he should have come back IMO), Sam (will get picked in the 2nd)....

It is not a guarantee that you "improve your stock" by coming back. I see people say that all the time, but it just isn't the case.

Because they realize they wont move up to the first or second round if they stay another year...they may move up one round if any...

Exactly....and for the chance to move up a round, they risk an injury that could cause them to not get paid at all.

Or if they want to be part owner of a small town in Louisiana

We had the conversation 50 times when they declared. The new rookie salary scale makes the difference between a 2nd rounder and 6th rounder very small relatively speaking. The most important thing for a kid to do is to get the clock started on their 2nd contract.

It is so silly at the number of people who always say that so and so is going to be a 1st round draft pick. You can be the best running back or best middle linebacker but still not get picked early because those are not premium positions in today's NFL. Good punters and placekickers are probably more valuable and harder to find than runningbacks and middle linebackers.

Yea I'm sure they will all get drafted, but some will get drafted lower than expected. Wish a few of these guys would of came back to help solidify a NC. But on the other hand, their departure opened the door for the young talent we have coming in.

Yes he does

BTW I agree with the Minter comment as he is one of the best LB's in the draft. Numbers don't lie.

Some left because they were at their peak, some left due to limited playing time, some left due to risk of additional injuries, and some left because of Miles' pitiful offensive schemes--with little chance of improvement.

League minimum for 2013 is 405K. How many years would it take the average college graduate to accumulate 405K....5-7 years or somewhere around there. LINK

well reid made the rt decision, fans bashed him.
Mingo made the rt decision. Both rbs made the rt decision, faulk made the rt decision. Minter made the rt decision.

Sam made the wrong decision and opend his mouth. simon made the wrong decision and got arrested. TM7 couldnt stay clean, might have left early either way. Wing isnt what we call a scholar.

Guys forget that minter and reid already graduated. and other guys played for 3 seasons. not many people do that, they red shirt and may not see pt until their rsjr year. this was not the case for any of the guys that left early minus sam. But thas because he lost the majority of his rsfr season with injury.
