Jefferson was not the problem this year. He's among the better QBs in the SEC. The problem was the O Line. Fix the O line and all of a sudden, everything will start looking P&G again including the coaching.

acgeaux129 rates Jefferson's "potential" based on a his own personal hunch. I'd prefer to base potential on what a player has achieved and Jefferson, as has been shown, achieved just as much his sophomore year as did JR.

Comments about JR's living condition during Katrina is simply grasping at straws.

Jefferson will be one of the three or four highest rated QBs in the SEC starting 2010.

The opinion about JJ is only shared by a select few,.....probably some Lee supporters...JJ will be ok,...just don't listen to the negatigers...

Are you serious?

JJ is a better runner than Russell. Russell had a better OL and a stronger arm.

JJ is our starter. He's just a bit slow recognizing defenses and finding secondary receivers. We'll find out this year IF things start slowing down for him. If not, we'll probably have to start over with Garrett and groom Zach Lee behind him. Until then, nobody needs to blow a gasket, people. This is how we have to play the hand we've been dealt.

Exactly do you jack asses want JJ to fail? He's not the best QB in the world right now but lets see how this season goes before you say he has no potential. Hell I'll even bump this next season so we can see whos right. If JJ isn't the guy then yeah I'd like to see garret get a shot. But right JJ is the guy and I'll support him until proven otherwise.

though I would be interested in seeing Garrett get a shot. He's still young though. We're pretty fricked next year.

Yeah, I can see how having the QB who lead the team to a 3rd place finish in the SEC and who has the 3rd best rating of returning SEC QB's could be seen as being "fricked".

Wake up and smell the coffee!

Jefferson was 6-5 220 his 2nd year at LSU

They sound pretty comparable to me.

And JJ has a brain!

um he's talking about the running game. not the qb's running.

+1...Jefferson, doesnt have the Arm like Russell does.....and Arm is God Given Talent that cant be developed...just like speed, either you got it or you dont..

No. It's not even really that much of an insult to Jefferson. Few QBs are actually comparable to Russell in terms of natural talent,

all of last year i kept waiting for the breakout game but it never happened. maybe the offense never took off because it was dumbed down to fit the qb

Yes it was, so, Im guessing you noticed that we ran a total of about 20 different plays all year...just different formations..you hear everywhere that kid just doesnt work for it, his work ethic and preperation are terrible...Ask Mightyat, he use to be JJ biggest fan until one of the players told him he "forgets film" after practice...

We are all rooting for JJ to be successful and we all hope he takes the next step. We also all know he will be the QB next season barring injury.

That being said, he is mediocre. People can debate it and the line wasn't great (esp the C and Gs) but a lot of the sacks are on JJ. Those sacks killed drives. There is not a single D coordinator in the SEC who is concerned about JJ beating them.

So all your little stats based on dinks and dunks are great. But JJ needs to learn how to make a decision quickly and play with controlled aggression. He was awesome v. Auburn (maybe he was sick of hearing how he shat the bed v. Florida). He needs to channel that aggressiveness every game this year.
I for one really hope he works hard this offseason. It would be nice to finally have a real QB and leader on the field for the first time in 3 years.

I couldnt agree more with all of this...

In a sense you're comparing apples to oranges. Two very different offensive philosophies when comparing Jimbo '05 to GC '09. Jimbo was fascinated with the rocket arm and potential of JR and often called on him to make very difficult throws. And JR was quick to oblige due to his immense ego. The result was a few more int's than he should have had but also a lot more incompletions than he'd have had with more conservative play-calling. JR avoided pressure and threw the ball away more effectively as a sophomore than JJ did. Far that matter, Flynn was a bit more polished as a sophomore than JJ but he and JR had the benefit of a whole season in '03 watching the effective Matt Mauck. JJ did show great mobility but he must learn to use that mobility not only to rush the ball but to buy time in the pocket. I will not say that JJ can't work himself up to be a 1st round draft choice because April 2012 is a ways off, however he needs to make that quantum leap forward this year that JR made as a Jr. to get close to that path.
