They weren't forced, at least according to Alleva. I remember him saying the conference had to ensure LSU had a bye week the previous Saturday before he would agree to it.
So this is getting down to the point, there wasnt much if a negotiation. aTm gets that same open date the weekend before, plus they don't have to travel for the game.

You act like this is a surprise. They do what they think is best for them, we don't matter

Apparently you missed 2011,
quote:As long as CBS felt they could benefit from it. Saturday night home SEC games are subject to CBS approval as outlined in a very expensive contract. CBS doesn't generally give a shite about LSU's night game boner, and neither does the rest of the SEC, and neither should they. It just isn't the rest of the world's job to make LSU happy.
So it is in fact negotiable.

Obviously, Texas A&M has control over what day they play their home game with LSU.

Would this change if the request was simply the one Saturday game, not taking it to the extreme of all night games?

I get it bro, its not that difficult to understand. It's also not that difficult to understand that some people, like myself, would prefer not play on Thursday. However you can't help but argue the merits of them feeling that way, so you insert yourself in the thread, inform them that their opinion doesn't matter, because the decision was already made. It does not change the fact that many believe it was a poor decision, that was not properly bargained for.

Apparently the former Miss State football coach knew more about what was going to happen with the LSU football schedule than the LSU or Arkansas AD. This is a perfect indicator that A&M did what they wanted, and the SEC told LSU to STFU.

Here's an old thread showing how LSU fans feel about playing Thanksgivng night

(I know that Sherill is also a former A&M coach, but it is true, that he is a former Miss State coach)

Texas A&M wanted LSU as their last game every year. The SEC granted the Ags their wish. LSU tried to use that as leverage for other pursuits but to no real advantage for LSU. Had LSU taken a firm stand against playing the Ags at the end of every season, all this Thanksgiving Day game crap would be a moot point.
The two times LSU played State on Thursdays, LSU had to give its permission for that to happen. It is NOT corr4ect to suggest that the home team in a conference game can play on any day they wish. LSU does not have to agree to play at A&M on T'giving night, but we did for 2014. That was yet another error by the LSUAD.
All of this scheduling stuff is genuinely LSU's fault for not clearly defining and standing up for what is in our best interest. And the sad thing is that our school admin and athletic admin let it all happen with little to no concern for what LSU fans wanted or want.
