Because its creepy as f*ck and if I was going through what LC was going through I would want to keep a low profile as well. He should have done what most sports journalists do and get permission to interview first. This is very bush league and LC doesn't have to talk to him if he doesn't want to.
I couldn't disagree more. This event is potentially marking the transition from the disaster of last week and the focus on the murder and Collins as a suspect to Collins' career. And, oh by way, there was an additional tie in to LSU with Freak, Landry, and Sheppard involved.
Collins and his camp have made blunder after blunder managing this situation. And now, you have a local homer reporter wanting to give some coverage to the football aspect of this, and Collins blows this as well
Think about it. If Landry comes out, or Freak and does a simple interview stating that they love Collins and that they support him and that they were here to show support and let him know that they would welcome him in Miami that would have been a HUGE public relations win for Collins.
Instead, he sends out a freak to be an a-hole which just reflects poorly on Collins. To say that he and his people are clueless is an understatement.
i think your opinion on this is ridiculously off the mark.

Yeah, that's not what Jacques was doing.

Sorry...but no. Had Doucet wanted to be a "homer" and do a legit interview, he could have called Collins or his reps and set up a time to meet and do one.
He didn't. In fact, he was hanging out in a parking lot.
The fact is, no one EVER gives a great interview off the cuff when they are being ambushed after dinner. Nothing about this screams homer reporter...

Were you there? If not, then how do you know this? Who says he "sent" anyone out? Or are you making assumptions based off of a butthurt reporter?

Again, they don't have to talk to anyone if they don't want to. Be reasonable.

Blew what? A chance to clear his name? Collins had nothing to gain from speaking with this creepy asshat. The damage is already done and maybe he wants to be left alone.

The draft is over. WTF are you talking about a public relations win? What does he have to prove? He already went undrafted over this. You think just because he does an interview it will magically make everything better? Give me a break.

Well I think you're out of your f*cking mind if you think doing a impromptu interview with a hack reporter will do anything to help his current situation.

Doucet's history of hard hitting critical journalism was his voice quivering question to Les Miles about the OC situation during the Crowton era. He is pathetic and totally a non threat.
He is the epitome of a homer. He would have put together a fluff piece about Collins, the LSU players and Miami.
Collins handled it very poorly.

Hate to bring race into this, but I wish white people would stop using thug for even the smallest of things. Robbing, shooting, slanging, fighting, destroying public and private property, that's thug. Thug is not grabbing a camera and then telling a dude to leave. If that was thug, any celeb that has ever pushed a camera out of their face must be a thug.
BTW, this is just a guy who got his feelings hurt and is whining about it. I would have said it for any player or person no matter if the played for a hated rival or not.

Which is why he was hanging out in the parking lot, unannounced...hoping to make Collins et al look good?
Not really sure what else to say here to be honest...

No one is really disagreeing here...though it sounds like you seem to think Collins owed this jackass an interview in the handicapped spot, whereas I think he should have simply walked by his dumb arse and made him look like an even bigger dweeb for standing around in the parking lot waiting for guys to finish eating.

I'm making assumptions based on the reported facts. This is all about Collins. He, like everyone else, is very much responsible for managing PR. You are focusing on the "sent" word and ignoring the failure to manage this situation and spin it in the best possible light. This was a real opportunity.

Again, they don't have to talk to anyone if they don't want to. Be reasonable.
It hurt Collins. Anyone interested in helping him, should act in a manner that actually helps him.

He wants to get this all behind him. That should be clear. This was a definite opportunity to help in that regard. If you can't accomplish controlling the narrative with a local reporter, how in the world is he going to accomplish this?

It's quite literally the first story that would have been about Collins resuming his career goals. It absolutely would have helped his situation. It wouldn't solve it on its own obviously. But, a week ago, people were legitimately wondering if he killed that poor girl.
So, instead of putting up with a local reporter in the parking lot, spinning the story positively, there is a confrontation in the parking lot.

He was looking for a story...like all reporters do. Maybe he gets an interview. Maybe all he gets is video of Collins walking out with 3 former Tigers and they voice over a story on the 10:00 news.
It's absolutely a story. And, people care about it. Hell, there were multiple threads about it before it happened yesterday.

Collins should do things that are in his own best interest. Best case, someone is willing to speak up for him (vaguely obviously) and voice support. Certainly, he shouldn't have had a negative altercation with a reporter in a parking lot who was covering him. That's flat out stupid.

You are clueless. It's in his very real interest to get people talking about his career...not talking about him as a suspect. I acknowledge that you don't recognize this. No point in arguing.
Bro I think you may be clueless. You think he's not already talking to multiple teams before he went out to dinner with these guys. That interview had absolutely no effect on his career. As soon as law enforcement acknowledged that he was not a suspect his career took shape again. He will be on a team very soon whether JD puts his two cents into the local news or not.

The guy is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't right now. I'm sure his lawyer told him not to speak to anyone. But if he would have told Jacques he had no comment or even worse just got in a car without leaving there would be a group of people jumping on him for not saying more. They would reason that an innocent man has no reason not to talk, regardless of what his lawyer says, so he must be guilty.

Doucet found out about this get together via social media. If he was just looking for a story like all other sports reporters do, why was he the only one there?

Collins handled it very poorly.
If he was interested in a fluff piece he would've called Collins' agent and tried to get an interview. Instead he read twitter and went and sat in the parking lot.
