Yep, it was in the same room as the laudromat...I remember doing clothes and "hanging around" the store while I was waiting for the clothes to be done...the dude who ran it was a mean SOB and I remember one morning him and John (Col.) Purdy, who I worked for an a student athletic trainer go into it. Purdy was a small guy but mean as a fricking badger...he had to be dragged out of there before he beat up the old blind dude....

I don't remember that store but I knew Purdy. He was basically the head trainer for the baseball team. I think he won a Purple Heart in Vietnam.

When I was there, the Chimes was a Rexall drugstore and there was a movie theater next to it called the Varsity. I spent most of my extracurricular time on Chimes St. There was The Bayou (Walk In, Crawl Out), Leisure Landing (record store) and a place called The Library that had the best roast beef po-boys outside of New Orleans. Louie's was at the other end of Chimes and there was also an Irish biker bar called Magoo's that was a lot of fun on St. Paddy's Day.

How about quarter beer night at Murphy's? Australian BB player Andy Campbell would sit at the bar and drink half a keg by himself.

You're right, the Chimes wasn't there yet! And Round the Corners was next to the Varsity I think. Mmmm..The Library. Chimes St also got very strange on on Halloween too. Original Louie's with their sprouts on burgers and omelets.
I also remember Frostop on Government St, Fred's Bar, Pancho's on Nicholson, the original Mike Anderson's, Chelsea's bar in the mall, George's Sandwiches under the Perkins overpass (right across the street from Tiger Rag office), and a great po-boy place downtown near where I worked in the summer of '82 at CityNatsionalBank - Monday's ?

I remember on or near Chimes Street the Varsity, Highland Coffee, the Chimes, the Bayou, Library Joe's, Mediterranean Cafe and then it moved and do you remember the bar called Slinky's? It was on Chimes street next to the Library Joe's.

I also remember Chelsea's at that mall and the SuperFresh and that Sandwich place called Anna's or something run by a Vietnamese lady.

I especially liked the Bayou, Library Joe's Slinky's and Chelseas. I used to do all my drinking on that part of Chimes street with the Chimes thrown in for good measure.

I know I'm late in responding, yes Pastime is still there and kicking. Thinks for sharing your memories,(you & tigergeauld), it took me back and I had forgot alot. The store was on first floor but you had to kind of go up a half flight of stairs. Use to stay in N stadium,3rd floor. Use to get my munchies there. I remember a tall Albino running the store, use to give me the creeps until I got to know him. A lot of things besides beer flowed freely back then. Use to have a part time job at the field house giving out towels to the faculty and going to the plasma center 2 times a week for 20$. I remember the Library on chimes it was a skanky bar back then and the Varsity around the corner. I believe it was the end of 84 or in 85 they showed the last rocky horror picture show there. I hadn't thought about this stuff in a while, so thanks for shaking out the cob webs.
