Skylar is the greyhound, basket is the rabbit

I’m pulling for this young man, but he needs to play under control. When he takes off on a fast break, it really does remind me of a greyhound running full speed, like a bat out of hell, trying to catch the mechanical rabbit, which (like the layup), is never achieved.

He isn't a bad kid or a bad player, but he can be far too selfish when he has the ball. For example, on the play he was intentionally fouled by Davis he had Reath wide open and just waiting for an easy dunk. Instead, he refused to pass it and missed an easy 2 because of it. Now, it ultimately worked out for LSU because he hit both FT's and LSU got the ball, but all that was really unnecessary when a simple pass to a teammate would have been an easy bucket.
When he takes over for Waters at PG the ball movement largely stops. There have even been possession where he dribbles almost the entire shot clock without a single pass.
I think he feels personal pressure to match Waters' production. However, he's just not the same player and cant do all of the things Waters can. When he's willing do be an "off guard" and defer to Waters he finds some good shots rather than unnecessarily trying to force tough shots.
(He did play great defense last night on a very tough matchup)

He literally cost us the SFA game with his out of control drives. Didn’t he have like 4 charges that game? I specifically remember on multiple occasions he passed on a wide open guy to run someone over and brick a layup.

He goes to the basket expecting a foul every play. Which translates to his wild shots and awful attempts. The 2 last night on back to back drives were just comical.

He doesn’t have the lift to be a great finisher. He can get to the rim but struggles to get it in the hole. You can see teammates lining up to follow those oborted layups...... they could almost be classified assists as often as it happens.

Or maybe Skylar is the coyote and the basket is the roadrunner.

Lack of lift is not the issue. He’s simply out of control. One thing he needs to learn from Waters is changing up his pace. He goes full speed with tunnel vision towards the goal. This is the same reason he gets so many charges. Just slowing down would help tremendously.

I'd really like to see him add a consistent floater and a one dribble pull up to help him score at different levels of the defense. As it stands, everyone in the arena knows that he's going straight to the rim if you run him off the three point line.

Exactly. It wouldn’t even be that long of a shot. Most of the time it’s 1 step from the rim.

Played him in high school a bunch of times, the way to beat him is to make him go fast, if he goes slow he could pick you apart especially in high school but he has no idea how to play fast.
