Gary sucked with Dixon. It was Chip Kelly that worked the magic.

And the Wild Murph wasn't that Wild at all. There was no motion man.

2) make people think

Think about this, if you will:

LSU lines up in the shotgun: 3 WRs (Lafell, Tolliver and Randle (or Peterson) 1 TE and you've got Jefferson behind Center, and Sheppard to his right. Who throws?

Or: Shotgun, 3 WRs (Lafell, Tolliver, and Sheppard...YES, Sheppard) No TE and Jefferson at QB with Williams to his left and Scott to his right. Who runs? Better yet, if we throw, will it be Jefferson, or will it be Sheppard who comes in motion across the line in front of the QB for a handoff?

Ahh, now I'm thinking. And I like it.

we have seen flashes, like KW-CS in the same backfield at USC last year. or the motion-triple option of RP-TH-KW against UF in 07. or the swing screen/lateral we used last year (can't recall the game)

appears to me that Crowton considers these one-off plays that he works to set up, when he feels like the setup is there, he'll run them. Of course it could be that Miles doesn't want his offense based on gadgetry, and would prefer to know his team can minimize risk by simply lining up and beating the other team.

Considering we've only scored less than 20 once in the last two years (Ole Miss), maybe the offense you see is exactly what is intended.

Slow its been common knowlege among the true fans that Crowton and Miles were holding back the true WOTONGO offense for 2010. Sadly we'll have to wait one more year.

well the swing screen-lateral? yes

the others aren't really to me. it was obvious what we were doing in the triple option plays, but it's just a hard play to stop (trindon and keiland get a lot of attention)

no way will russell sheppard ever be mentioned with any QB who has ever thrown for 5,000 yards in a season like tim rattay
Russell Shepard >>>>>> Tim Rattay
Also, 2 completely different QB styles.

well yeah

crowton has a much longer history with the spread than he does the spread option

his best years were spread principles (la tech, chiago bears, BYU)

still has a history of exciting spread offenses and seems to be adding in spread option

that's because white boys can throw the ball and not run the ball

Are you trying to say we have to throw the long ball to be successful? Why can't we have a running spread attack out of the shotgun and pepper the defense with short, targeted passes when necessary that eat up large chunks of yardage by YAC?

no i'm saying that if you had to say what crowton's offense is, that is crowton's offense: the spread

we could, but i don't know of an example of a "running spread attack." what kind of offense do you eman?

and if you mean spread option, i think we're going that way and it's a work in progress

we've only really seen it as our main offense kind of in the peach bowl last year

Yes, I do, sorry if I was unclear. I envision Shepard providing a devastating attack from the QB position running this type of offense.

i can't see crowton running an option offense, which is what shep likely will need

also, if he somehow does turn into this, we'll all have 1 year to watch him b/c JJ isn't going anywhere for 3 years

i think it's more likely garrett becomes our main QB in 2012-13 with shep playing his usual gimmick role for 2012
